Reading those replies on that Twitter thread, I was shocked! I am usually not on Twitter.

They set up a straw-man in that thread.

Then they rejoice like a bunch of retards to celebrate whatever they are celebrating.

It is like an alternative reality.

Let's put it this way.

There is the Taiwan Strait, and a new status quo has emerged, that is still evolving.

Then, we have the US Navy and Twitter, who are confident of upholding the previous status quo.

So we get to a situation where alternative realities sit side by side.

The new status quo, co-exists, with the old status quo.

In the end, I think this is all sophistry.

Sure, the current status quo the Chinese are implementing, can co-exist with the old status quo, that by sailing through the straits the US maintains that is being upheld. It is far more simpler to say that one side has obsolete views and strategies.

Using obsolete views and strategies, leads to no where, and one's aims will not be fulfilled by obsolete methodology and means.

Why the joy?!

Why not.

Whatever!

I have respect for the Tico class, but in context of the USN's plan to retire them in the next few years, it seems a little less impressive and almost symbolic in a somewhat more morbid manner than they probably intended.
Using old ships that are about to be disposed makes sense as anything in the Taiwan Strait survives only at China's mercy. You don't want to place your valuable assets in such a situation.

ROC claiming 8 PLAN and 23 PLAAF today. When or what day does the US goes through?
Probably already happened and then leaked to Reuters yesterday or was happening and then leaked to Reuters at the same time. The transit according to the article takes 8-12 hours which is unusually long.

Maybe the reason 8 vessels from PLAN were in the area was due to the transit.

I'm just surprised that in an article about the US and China, it's mostly Indians in the comments.

Edit: actually not surprised at all
