Taiwan is trying very hard to downplay PLA activities. Their almost obviously endorsed media personalities went as far as saying the photos and videos on the CCTV were fake. They still say the missiles didn't violate their airspace because of their apogees. We had the usual OSINT bros getting satellite photos of 055s at the east of Taiwan. But no Taiwanese media release featured those ships. This is almost Ukraine level bs. I think both of them are getting guidance from the same source.

Taiwanese politicians make Indian politicians look respectable. At least when the Galwan captives photos were leaked the Indian government/army stayed quiet about it instead of saying that they were photocopied fakes.

I respect India a lot more than most US allies. I don't see a US security advisor shouting at their cabinet for 5 hours for buying telecom gear to start with.

Here comes the response: two Ticos going through the strait, bit weak if you ask me.

I have respect for the Tico class, but in context of the USN's plan to retire them in the next few years, it seems a little less impressive and almost symbolic in a somewhat more morbid manner than they probably intended.

It's kind of like the Americans are telling the Chinese that with this ship transit, the Americans are determined to return to the previous status quo.

The Chinese? They made a note of it, but far too busy now playing video game with drones.

I guess it is probably better that China simply stalls for time while the USA continues to make mistake after mistake so when China finally acts, it will be that much more devastating. Plus unless a fully armed ship or carrier goes though the strait and actually tries to fire a shot, it’s better to take note of that model so China can sink it at a future date. Besides, their is plenty of opportunity to smack the USA down when winter approaches and the USA/EU is low on real supplies

I don't read too much into US FONOPS anymore because:

1) Transit in this strait have being overused by the USN that they have diminished their importance.
2) They change no strategic value because warships are monitored and escorted by a larger number of PLAN vessels and the USN vessels sail right through; not stopping or calling port in Taiwan.
3) They offer no tactical or training value for the US crew because sailing through the straits will never happen in times of war.
4) From the 4th Crisis, we've witnessed that USN actually respects the threat within 1000km space from the Chinese coast and stayed clear of it unlike the last Taiwan crisis.

If China still had a brown water navy, I bet USN would bring in 2 CSG near Taiwan but times are different. This is not the 1996 anymore.

But US had to do this which was the only military response option to China changing the status quo permanently.
