Multiple Chinese government officials are referring to a blockade. It's all starting to sound like North Korea. If that's the plan do it, don't telegraph your intentions.
It’s weird, I expected more positive reaction from the western press, but everyone seems to be pissed. Many major outlets (NYT, WaPo as above) are calling it a destabilizing stunt. The only positive press was Pelosi tooting her own horn and @Broccoli saying Pelosi’s heel is crushing the neck of the CCP.

On the topic of the blockade. If it’s live fire exercises, it’s an effective blockade. The coverage areas are too large and no insurance company is going to pay out if anything happens, so ships will probably wait in port. Similarly with flights.
Doesn't surprise me at all. Washington Post is owned by Jeff Bezos, the number one seller of Chinese products in the world. Do you think he is going to be happy with even a limited China-Taiwan conflict, let alone war between China and America?

A lot of American politicians are living in dream world.

Escalating rhetoric will backfire once you can’t back it up with actions
1. There are actions. A military drill encircling Taiwan is an immediate action and a response. They might permanently station there making invasion much more difficult to detect and plan for should it be needed. A lot more meaningful than Pelosi could ever be. After all, the just sails ships in circles in the SCS. Nobody in China's government said the plane would be shot down; that's America moving the goalpost to make it look like it won.

2. There are more actions. Just like in the trade war, China wasn't aggressive and there wasn't always an immediate strike-back. But 2 years later and we see the US soundly defeated. Even if the West likes to have short memory spans so it can congratulate itself, the game is still a long game.
. China is now dealing with an international and domestic fallout,
Cus unlike in America, Chinese politicians aren't allowed to blatantly lie and shrug it off.
especially with that skewed power dynamics in favor of the western world.
The military for now, not necessarily around Taiwan but overall. Technologically, quite shaky with trends in China's favor; economically, nope.

@ZeEa5KPul and @9dashline , will you two cool it down a bit.

The "Fourth Taiwan Strait Crisis" is still ongoing and we have already seen several of our forum members at each other's throat. If that is the way Chinese deal with a crisis of this proportion, God help us ?

And I do not wish to see @9dashline leave the forum just because of one emotional post, irrespective how much I agree or disagree with him.
So what you are saying is although it would have been hilarious and satisfying to see 9dashline back his tough rhetoric with tough action by leaving the forum, it is better for the development of the forum in the long term to show leniency and let him stay :D.

I noticed that there were relatively little coverage of Pelosi's trip by the US MSM until after she landed, then the MSM started to "celebrate the win". The reason may be the US general public just not that interested in Taiwan as an issue.

Now that the Democrats got a "win", the Republicans have no choice but pooh-pooh it.

All just about getting votes for the upcoming midterm election..

That's why Hollywood and Anglo script writers were the best. Last few years Korean media is better if you ask me the west seems to steal a lot of story/cultural concept from Asia.

Also just use a airgapped from internal network to post your 15s tiktok videos. Or just block the tiktok device from entering internal networks.
But everyone is really afraid of China (except Pelosi, obviously!).

In the US, democrats will claim Pelosi’s visit is a successful demonstration of US Taiwan alliance.

Republicans will claim Pelosi’s trip is reckless and mishandled by sleepy joes admin.
But it was the Republicans who encouraged Pelosi to go in the first place, however didn't take the invitation to go with her lol.

I think the US rally wanted china to make a martyr out of Pelosi. Right before her trip they released the article saying British MP will also go visit. I think that was not a coincidence but a further bait for china to use force to prevent the plane from landing. But thats my take.
