The world has truly turned upside down. All the Wumaos are crying that China lost and Western media is claiming that Pelosi F-ed up.

It’s weird, I expected more positive reaction from the western press, but everyone seems to be pissed. Many major outlets (NYT, WaPo as above) are calling it a destabilizing stunt. The only positive press was Pelosi tooting her own horn and @Broccoli saying Pelosi’s heel is crushing the neck of the CCP.

On the topic of the blockade. If it’s live fire exercises, it’s an effective blockade. The coverage areas are too large and no insurance company is going to pay out if anything happens, so ships will probably wait in port. Similarly with flights.

People claiming that China looks weak in its response to the visit are deluding themselves. The official channels promised that there would be a military response to a visit. The announced exercises are a very strong response. Nobody official said a visit might be prevented by force, although some private individuals were speculating about it.

The PLA made no attempt to stop pelosi and they're mobilising for these blockade exercises so fast that it must have been a planned response. So this must have been the plan all along. If anything, ending the policy of respecting the 12 nm limit is maybe too much escalation. So if you want to criticise Chinese policy, don't criticise that they didn't stop the visit. Criticise that they made so many warnings to turn the visit into a big enough deal to provide the excuse for these exercises. Chinese propaganda often sounds childish, but it got the job done, didn't it?

And if that UK guy visits, next time increase the pressure, entire week long blockade with overland flights instead of just barely inside of "Taiwan's" 12 nm "airspace"

I'm stating this seeming lack of a source because of a linked Twitter post from a user claiming CCTV has stated that all Taiwanese ports and trade routes will be blocked to any civilian or commercial traffic for the duration of the exercises.
Right. Just saying nothing has actually happened yet so we don’t know if that’s the case until the exercises actually start. Right now any source that states this sort of conclusion are probably extrapolating from either thin speculation or some concrete information that may not operationalize the way they’re anticipating.

@ZeEa5KPul and @9dashline , will you two cool it down a bit.

The "Fourth Taiwan Strait Crisis" is still ongoing and we have already seen several of our forum members at each other's throat. If that is the way Chinese deal with a crisis of this proportion, God help us ?

And I do not wish to see @9dashline leave the forum just because of one emotional post, irrespective how much I agree or disagree with him.

And damage the uk economy by cutting ties with the uk at the best possible timing and cut the UK off from all essential resources from gas/oil/sunflower oil/grains and the like through discussion with Russia and other partners that matter as well. The UK is now in a crisis and is in no position to recover, even more so if Liz Truss becomes prime minister due to how crazy that fool is.
Also in the end, win some , lose some, maybe China could handle the situation better but given the nature of the crisis, the fact that the west didn’t come out with a outright win and seems in fact to have come out looking worse then China is a win in itself. In the end, China will still make gains that will resonate into the future while this event has exposed the USA even more as a nation that is scared enough of China that they do not have the balls to sail there super carrier next to China like they did in the past for fear of being given a demonstration as to how strong Chinas missile development has become after 3 decades. This in the end will trump any kind of PR spin the USA could possibly try to use so let’s put this all behind us and go back to witnessing how the endgame in Ukraine will play out because that will have big consequences as to whether the EU will be in a position to aid the USA directly against China or not given how the USA and the EU are wasting billions trying to contain Russia to no avail while China even now has the time to prepare for the worse.

Escalating rhetoric will backfire once you can’t back it up with actions. China is now dealing with an international and domestic fallout, especially with that skewed power dynamics in favor of the western world.

I hope you are well stocked on naxalone, because if that’s your take right now, I can only imagine you’ve take two heaping scoops of crushed oxy.

Shelling and flights start on Thursday. From what I've heard, none of the U.S. Pacific allies are sending support since as @gadgetcool5 stated, Pelosi's visit is overly aggressive and they know that it is "in the wrong".
In the US, democrats will claim Pelosi’s visit is a successful demonstration of US Taiwan alliance.

Republicans will claim Pelosi’s trip is reckless and mishandled by sleepy joes admin.
