I hope so too!

I am going to assume you are an Aussie, and let me personally express my thanks for all your support and friendship over the years, my own Dad served with several Aussie friends when he served in Viet-Nam with MACVSOG, and spoke highly of their character and faithfulness. Your unflinching support of the F-35 program, and that of friends on Defense Talk, brought me to a realization of what a very fine airplane the little ThunderHogge II is, I am hoping that nick catches on, thinking of the WartHog, I am hopefull that the F-35 will be as outstanding at what it is tasked with doing, as the A-10 continues to be.

Your words are kind, and I'm sure service men and women from Australia past and present would appreciate reading them.

Right you are AFB. I live but a stones throw from where the Canberra class LHD's are currently being fitted out. The worlds oldest continuously operating military airfield is also not far down the road.

All I will say is that I believe in the potential the F-35 has to offer. It will be a game changer, make no mistake. It's certainly not the quickest, nor the prettiest aircraft in some peoples eyes, but what it will bring to the table in the coming decades will make all of that irrelevant.

I'm not trying to start a fight, but I would really want to know why do you (and all the other supporters of F-35) think it would be a game changer : it is not fastest nor it is most maneuverable, it wont be stealthiest and will not have best avionics . Last but not least , it won't be inexpensive .

The F-35 will become a crucial link in a fully networked battle space. It's ability to cue not only other air assests but also ground forces will be the game changer.

In other words, F-35 will be a router(or hub) to exchange information ? Excuse me, but doesn't sound very impressive, you could do that with any plane with right equipment . IMHO, some larger aircraft standing away like E-8 JSTARS would do that function better, simply because it could carry more communication equipment .

I'm just a layman but ... maybe what's important here is stuff like this:

I mean when talking about "game-changing"

just found this: United States Senate Committee on Appropriations says on July 17, 2014 in

"F135 Engine.—When the Department of Defense made the deci-
sion to terminate the alternate engine for the F–35 Joint Strike
Fighter [JSF] in May of 2011, it reassured the Committee that a
second engine was no longer necessary as a hedge against the fail-
ure of the main JSF engine program. The Department also stated
that the financial benefits, such as savings from competition, were
small if they existed at all. Since that time, the F135 engine has
experienced numerous problems, including the failure of an oil flow
management valve and a pre-take-off fire in the past few weeks,
both of which grounded the entire fleet of over 100 aircraft. Fur-
ther, the F135 engine unit cost has not declined as projected. How-
ever, the Committee believes that had the alternate engine pro-
gram continued, competition would have incentivized the F135 en-
gine manufacturer to find creative methods to drive down prices
and ensure timely delivery of a high quality product, which is con-
sistent with current Department preference for competition in ac-
quisitions. Therefore, the Committee recommends the Secretary of
Defense reassess the value of an alternate engine program creating
competition to improve price, quality, and operational availability."
