Compared to F-16 ? No chance. And to think that instead of that fat chick you could have had this beauty :(

to each there own but I never really liked F16XL. F16 is fine but to get her up to date you need the high spine and ugly conformal tanks.

Turkey Orders F-35

The Defense Industry Executive Committee, the highest decision making body for Turkish Defense acquisition projects, met on 6 May 2014 and tasked the Turkish Undersecretary for Defense Industries, or SSM in Turkish, to order the country’s first two F-35A Lightning II multirole fighters. The aircraft will be delivered as part of Low-Rate Initial Production Lot 10. The SSM was also tasked to perform necessary activities for the establishment of a Final Assembly and Check-Out line and depot-level maintenance center for the F135 engine within Turkish local industry and Turkish Air Force structure. Turkey is one of the original F-35 consortium partners, joining the project in 1999. Current Turkish defense plans call for 100 F-35As.

Excellent choice from Turkey and infact Turkey is a Level 3 partner same as Canada, Austrialia, Denmark and Norway

The finally order book tally for TuAF is going be over 100 units

Yes but think of all the extra hardpoints you can fit on the F-16XL. The cranck arrow wing can serve for additional fuel cells.

re: F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Thread

We are most definitely NOT arguing semantics, nor can you reasonably make any kind of case where I said that the F-35 was a waste, "essentially" or otherwise. You clearly did not initially parse my post closely and are now trying to avoid admitting that you did not do due diligence to I...
No, Solaris, I am not trying to avoid anything or parse anything.

You clearly have not been around long enough to know me in the least.

I said exactly what I felt, and explained it exactly as I came to it.

You are free to accept that or not...but you are in absolutely no position to tell me what I "think," are ascribe motivations to what I am doing. I would advise you to not head down that road on this forum with myself, or any other member of SD.

This is so logically tenuous that I really don't think I should have to rebut this at all.
So say you...but I have not asked and do not expect you to "rebut," anything. That's all your call, and your doing.

As I stated earlier, I stand by my own observations and my predictions as regard the F-35 program.

I have to say this isn't the first time you've gone off on me without getting what I was saying. You even got AFB in this very thread apologizing on your behalf and saying you would correct yourself, so I am clearly not the only one coming to this conclusion. And when he responded to me in the other thread, he got what I was saying right away and focused his response on the concurrency aspect of the F-35 program rather than come to the immediate conclusion that I thought the F-35 was "essentially" a waste. You're clearly not going to admit to any kind of mistake at this point, but I think you should know that this is not cool. Not cool at all.

Anyway, regarding concurrency and the F-35 program, they are clearly not the same thing, and are not mutually required to exist. Notably the F-22 program also from Lockmart was widely noted to be successful without having to resort to the degree of concurrency that the F-35 ended up with. Yeah we got some F-35's 'early' from LRIP, but these were clearly non-functional and have required hundreds of millions in back fixes to make them flyable; the US military will likely end up paying several billions more due to concurrency fixes before the designs are truly finalized on each variant. Concurrency is in fact one of the major factors threatening the success of the F-35 program, and is not in any way a contributor to its success or a factor in its continuation.

Here's a sampling of available information on concurrency and the F-35:

re: F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Thread

Thank you. Now I will have to go research my previous statement. :(

Only way to learn

The F16XL had 16 weapons hardpoints two of those were plumbed for fuel drop tanks. but because of there placement if you loaded those tanks you lost use of the adjacent Hard points.
