Any specs on the F23P and F24P. Is it confirmed that they will be built in the next decade? Will they resemble the type 053 or 054 or a totally new design?

IMHO:

For F23P, it will be on the lines of 054A (scaled down version).
For F24P, it will be almost the same 054A or may be new design.

what's the latest on these negotiations? I guess cost is always an issue for cash strapped PN.

As mentioned in PS# 168, PN have breathing space of 5-7 years when Type 21 goes offline. Hence, procurement of another 6-8 FFGs & 6 SSKs would easily available on soft loan basis from China.

Looks we are getting 3 more OHPs which would mean four in total

Putting these three through the $65 million upgrade and refit then upgrading all four with the Turkish GENESIS programme would give four very good frigates for Pakistan Navy

Three FFG are FFG-42,45 and 49

I was wondering if it was economical to upgrade just one OHP under GENESIS programme now it makes more sense following is from Warship magazine

The same helicopters can also be used for search and rescue operations. The ship will be able to independently operate at sea for prolonged period and is capable to transfer stores at sea.

Another [Moderator Removed] proof of our corrupt leaders.

IMO, PN don't need OHPs since we are having 4 F22Ps plus we are in final stage of further 4-8 FFGs along with 6 SSKs from China without any DO-MOREs commitments. Moreover, 1st OHP took 5 years don't know these 3 will take how many more years, though as per article it says in next 3 years but who knows .... you never believe on Uncle SAM.

Its just another dirty political move [Moderator Removed]....

Its 3 years for all three to retire and then the related decommission , refurbish and than hand over. So yes 5 odd years for all 3 to be in hands of PN. OHP are very good platform and can pack quite a punch vs F22Ps if properly equipped, specially in ASW. Also they are being paid for by FMS slated for the PN and based on what is available from used USN equipment is very good use of funds.

Yes, but we all know what price we (our leaders) have to pay to make Uncle SAM happy.....

Let’s look at it this way timepass, we are getting 3 pretty good FFG for a good price I don’t think we could get 3 FFG for like $200 million, plus the current one makes four good frigates undergo Turkish GENESIS and we have 4 very capable frigates plus money goes to Turkey for upgrade or we do it at home either way it’s a win win situation

I don’t think it’s got to do with the current situation because in such transfers it’s all about timing and allocation, the US years ago said 6 OHP for Pakistan, then it’s all about allocating the units and waiting for them to be decommissioned these things are planned years in advance an overnight decision can’t be made all of a sudden*

Add in the four x F22p and four x OHP plus retire the 6 Amazon Class and add in four more Chinese F23P frigates we have the dream team number of 12 very modern FFG which I said before, for F22P and F23P we can repair any damage at home I am sure Turkey can do the same for OHP we have not strings attached here

Steeling cutting for first home built replenishment tanker maybe a second, two small utility tankers, two Azmat Class missile boats, MRTP-15 and MRTP-30 there’s plenty to be happy about and it’s good to finally see the Navy getting their fair share of the defence budget and more attention

Best thing now is that they are integrating the navy with the air component, aerial refuelled JF-17 Thunder Block II covered by ZDK-03 AWACS will be working with the navy, air sea integration which means the air force can detect something the navy can attack it or vice versa never before have we had this kind of capability

Looking ahead this SSK deal is exciting I don’t think we would cancel a German U-boat deal 90% complete if PN wasn’t on to something serious with the Chinese, there’s all the possibility it could launch Babur cruise missile which is nuclear capable giving PN the guardian ship of our second strike capability, you have a nuclear capable submarine out there no one in the right mind is going to mess around with you especially if they know it’s not just for show*

So relax No one becomes a mini-superpower overnight it takes time, our leaders maybe be sell outs but think of the bigger picture, however I do believe our military does sometimes put too much hope and emphasis on our nukes which sometimes kills certain military deals
