Two Jianhu Class (FFG535 Huangshi and 536 Wuhu) transferred to the Bangladesh Navy. I guess the BN really must be hard up for cash to want those museum pieces.

I don't know Blackstone.. I think for a small coastal country like Bangladesh the jianghus would serve them well especially since they have been updated and modernized to almost new condition. I'm also guessing they probably got those for pennies on a dollar from China or some sort of trade deal where it's very amicable to the BN.

I concur, maybe they were thrown is to sweeten the 056 deal?

Besides, the Bangladesh Navy isn't that big, frigates are their biggest assets. BNS Bangabandhu, BNS Osman, and BNS Sumudro Joy are the only other active frigates. Ex-535 and 536 will replace BNS Abu Bakar and BNS Umar Farooq which are to be decommissioned. Those are Type 41 Leopard class, vintage 1950s.

Why did the PN go with F-22P instead of 054A?

No one knows the true reasons. But using an educated guess, I think it's because of Pakistan's inferior industrial capabilities. Even if 054A was given to Pakistan as a free gift, Pakistan's industries still wouldn't be able to maintain and service it. Modern warships are no longer something as simple as a rifle or canon. Not just the sailors requiring years of training before they can fully wield the ships, the shipbuilding industry also has to be updated and extensively trained before they can service 054A.

Another factor would be the price. 054A is a least double the price and this is based on China's PLAN pricing (054A) and export pricing (F22P) to Pakistan. If you base both on the potential export pricing, 054A might be at least 250% - 300% that of F22P.

The biggest factor would probably be that of building indigenous shipbuilding industry. Like the Mistral class, half of the ships would be built by the exporter and the other half by the importer. This will directly boost Pakistan's shipbuilding ability. F22P is a lot smaller and simpler to build than the 054A, making it less challenging to achieve for Pakistan.

The contract, after years of negotiation, was signed in April 2006.

The first 054A frigate was launched in Sept 2006.

This is both valid and not valid. Considering Pakistan is a close ally of China, it would have early knowledge of those ships at least a year or two before they are built. They might not know the exact specs, but at least they would have the ball park idea of what the ship would turn out to be. And especially considering 054A being not a secret-weapon type of gadget, say F22, J20 or nuclear subs, which don't need to be kept a secret. It would instead probably being marketed to the Pakistanis. Don't forget, higher tech and higher price tags = higher $$$.
