Yea but aren't Naxalites illegal? I know Indian paramilitary forces don't always go after them, but I was under the assumption that armed milita aren't allowed.
Illegal probably. Just a few years back, according to SATP, the Naxalites had an armed wing of 195,000 soldiers.

Key Manipur Official Confirms Militant Presence Amid Moreh Violence

A gunfight between militant groups on Wednesday (January 17) killed two Indian Reserve Battalion jawans and one Manipur Rifles jawan.

New Delhi: As Manipur’s Moreh town continues to be engulfed in turmoil, a gunfight between militant groups and security forces on Wednesday (January 17) claimed the lives of two Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawans and one Manipur Rifles jawan.

A top source within the Manipur government has officially confirmed to The Wire the involvement of militants from both the Meitei and Kuki communities.
Today marked one of the darkest days in Moreh, which has seen continued gunfights since December 30.

Militant groups have set ablaze numerous houses and schools in the area, leading to a loss of faith among the affected communities in both Union and state forces.
“Today, a woman was overrun by security vehicles … during their [the security forces’] attempt to disperse the womenfolk who were opposing them.”

Fresh Violence In Manipur, Commando Killed As Attackers Use Bombs, RPG

Manipur Violence News: The attackers threw bombs and fired at a security post near Moreh

New Delhi:
A Manipur Police commando was killed today in an attack in the border town Moreh, 110 km from the state capital Imphal. Firing has been going on since morning, government sources said.

According to reports, the attackers today threw bombs and fired at a security post near Moreh. Moreh is a key trading town on the India-Myanmar border.

Police said the attackers also fired RPG shells at the temporary commando post damaging several vehicles parked in the vicinity.
Doesn't look like Manipur situation is under control, I wonder if there will be Myanmar civil war spillovers in other Indian states.

that spread throughout several districts in Manipur on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. This comes a day after two police personnel were killed and six others injured in an attack by armed militants in Tengnoupal on Wednesday morning, taking the toll over the two days to seven dead and nine injured.

Across Thursday, there were violent protests in several parts of the state that continued to be tense, with security personnel and the administration struggling to put a lid on violence that has now lasted eight months.

Senior police officials confirmed that in Bishnupur district, four persons, all Meiteis, were killed by armed miscreants at Ningthong Kha Khunou around 2 pm on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Ningthoujam Nabadeep (40), Oinam Bamonjao (63), Oinam Manitomba (37) and Thiyam Somen (56).

I haven't posted much about Manipur but there was a lot going on. I had a hard time telling what was fake news or not on twitter but I think it's clear Manipur is getting more destabilized as time goes on.

Manipur-Myanmar Border Sees Intense Gunfight, Several Casualties Likely

New Delhi: Intense gunfights are being witnessed on the Myanmar-Manipur border, near the Myothit township of Myanmar, media reports have said.

It is suspected that cadres of the banned insurgent group from Manipur, the People’s Liberation Amy (PLA), and Myanmar’s ethnic armed group, the K-Chin National Front (B), and the People’s Defence Force (PDF), an armed group of volunteers that supports the National Unity Government (NUG) in exile are involved in the gun fight.

NIA Chargesheet in a Manipur Case Finds Link Between Weapons Looted and Violence Against Kukis

The NIA chargesheet, seen by ‘The Wire’, has said that persons it has arrested, belonging to the Meitei community, attended “weapons training camps” organised by cadres of a proscribed Meitei insurgent group.

to the special NIA court in New Delhi.

The agency continued to work on “credible inputs” that the China-Myanmar module of NSCN/IM (Naga insurgent group) based in Myanmar under the leadership of Hangshi Tangkhul and Absilom Tangkhul have decided to extend support to proscribed terrorist organisations, Kanglei Yaol Kamba Lup (KYKL) under the leadership of N Owen, the chairman of the, KYKL, and People’s Liberation Army (PLA) under the leadership of M M Ngouba, the acting president and chief of staff, PLA, to infiltrate their cadres into the Indian territory for carrying out terrorist attacks in India.”
The agency further worked to probe the allegation that the NSCN/IM’s Myanmar leadership had “promised a safe passage” to the PLA and KYKL “along with arms, ammunition, explosives and other terrorist hardware, to Manipur based terrorist outfits and proscribed organisations”.

As per the chargesheet, the agency believed that these outfits were “tasked” to “identify”, “recruit” and “train impressionable youths and get them involved in the ongoing violence with the larger goal of destabilising the security situation in Manipur and to further wage a war against the government of India”.

where the central agency alleged that the “China-Myanmar module” of NSCN-IM, the Naga outfit that signed a framework agreement with the Union government in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015, helped two banned Meitei outfits to infiltrate Manipur to fuel ethnic violence and destabilise the State.

between the tribal Kuki-Zo people and the majority Meitei community that erupted in the State on May 3, 2023.

NSCN said that “it is sensitive to the propaganda war waged by the Government of India against NSCN who had signed ceasefire with GoI and engaged in political talks for the last 27 years.”
It alleged that “Indian Security Forces were extending logistics and material support to KNA(B) (Kuki National Army-Bangladesh) to wage war against the Meitei revolutionary groups stationed in Myanmar.”

It further alleged that the security forces even allowed “the Kuki militant groups operating in Tengnoupal district, Manipur, to enter Myanmar and fight with the Meitei revolutionary groups. Nothing is left to doubt about the dubious role of Indian Security Forces, as they use the Kukis as frontal forces to engage in bloody discord against the Nagas, giving all logistics support to the Kuki militant groups.”

Interesting perspective on what is happening in northeast India.

A total clusterfuck of news coming out of northeast India. Looks like the northeast India powder keg burnt all the way to Myanmar. The connection between Myanmar Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAO) and Indian separatist groups is publicized for Indian domestic political purposes. It turns out India is backing both the Myanmar junta and Myanmar EAOs.

India's Geostrategic Calculations: Frontier Naga Territory, Geopolitics and Myanmar's Junta

This biased reviews explains some of the intricacies involved in the region. Although in typical Indians fashion always trying to smear China again by implying China is backing Indian separatist groups.
