Banning travel at that point is pointless anyways. There are cases in Europe and the US since November last year. There are articles on that in the covid thread

No country had ever managed to stop the spread of new diseases in history. Did the US stopped the swine flu? You are asking for way too much.

Bollocks. China stopped it. With much more dense urban population too.
The problem with the US and Europe is that in the Summer they went business as usual and relapsed into a worse condition than in May.

Obama did ban the sale of semiconductor chip used to make the supercomputer, which was building taking the lead on that fastest supercomputer list.

That ban did not work as China produced similar chips later, and it was their cabling I believe that made the Chinese supercomputer the fastest in the world for 5 years straight.

Rumour was that during the Trump administration, China would not compete in that contest anymore because it did not want to win again and antagonize the Trump regime even more.

Biden is on record saying that russia is an opponent and that he will go after russia, so if he also go after China at the same time then it will be double containment strategy against both, with eu fully on us side
So whats stopping China russia in forming an alliance in countering that

I believe this scenario is what putin had in mind when he said that alliance with China is possible

Because aside from Nuclear weapons, Energy security and Food security, Russia doesn't bring much to the table.

For China to choose Europe over Russia is simple economics. Oil and Wheat is important but not as important as the 20 Trillion market of Europe to trade with.

At some point, I think, Europe and US is going to take their attention away from the coronavirus. They'll put it under the category of seasonal flu or some other disease and focus purely on the economy.

The case in France is telling. They are not enforcing the lockdowns in Paris and seems to have had enough.

You are right China values its trade relationship with europe, but if they become a security threat especially if they try to encircle and contain China then that calculus will change, security trumps (no pun intended) economic anytime
When europe become a security threat to China then energy security will make russia more important than europe due to risk of sea blockade
And Russia still posses a formidable military industrial complex and expertise that will still benefit China
As of right now they even start to collaborate on early warning system norad style

Honestly I though Europeans are supposed to be well educated and more open minded, turns out this virus has exposed more then just how deadly it is but just how many flaws that Europe will have to address in the future, assuming they ever get this crisis under control, if ever given they they have the will of a mouse.

coronavirus is not going anywhere just because they pretend its not there, even if young people recover there are risk of long covid syndrome that affect 20% to 35% of people infected, you can't start economic recovery without controlling the pandemic
And france now is the most hated country in the muslim world their products is even boycotted in muslim countries, surely macron is not stupid enough to add China to the list, because Chinese boycott will be much much more painful
