This is not good. The best thing is to look at people as separate beings, not as Westerners or Easterners or whatever. The sad thing is most western people don’t even realise their arrogant are slowly hurting the relation between East and West ...
I can imagine some China members may dislike reading about quote unquote correct name! This is not good. The best thing is to look at people as separate beings, not as Westerners or Easterners or whatever.
In Mandarin Chinese, it would be "老大,老二,老三" or "大,二,三 儿子". Word for word in English "Old Big, Old 2, Old 3" or "Big, 2, 3 son". If the 3rd son is the last son, he can also be called "小儿子" or "little son" instead of number 3.If you have three children, born in 2007, 2012 and 2017. How would you count the child born in 2007?
Would you count it "my 1 child" in Chinese?
One more confusing culture background, in many Chinese dialects, "old" is not old in English. like in tiger being called "老虎" (old tiger) even a tiger cub.The oldest child from 2007 is old 3 child? And the next child is old 2 child? What, when there is a new child in 2018?
Same with carriers: the oldest carrier at the moment is old 2 carrier, because there are two carriers at all?
There won't be any confusion if the 3rd carrier(aka CV-18, type 003, ex-002, so on and so forth ) is a clean sheet design unrelated to the Soviet based design. I am inclined to believe the clean sheet possibility because adding all the extra piping for steam cat (if it was true) and later change to EMALS is way too much work than modifying the Soviet design, it is easier to design a new hull after the excising design/build work on CV-17.This is where the confusion begins the Russian carrier on which CV-17 is a sister ship is listed on some websites as 50,000 metric tonnes empty and 58,000 metric tonnes normal load with a full load of 67,000 metric tonnes, what do they mean by normal load? The empty weight seems right as the Chinese themselves from memory refers to it as a 50,000 tonne carrier, can you help clarify.

Yes often it is "great". It is also of respectful admiring curtesy. In "老同志" "Old Comrade", it is to address people who served longer time by the new comers. Or it is just "past or ex" as in "老领导,老同学,老同事" which is "ex leader, ex classmate, ex colleague". In "老虎", it means the ferocious might of the tiger. Of course, in many other contexts, it really means old in English.I believe the Chinese “old” most likely means “great”, or “grant”...
