The next major step in will most likely take off and landing at night. Today no concrete information available to suggest that the Chinese have already mastered.

Henry K.

No Naval aviator to my knowledge has ever mastered night landing on any aircrfat . I've seen pilots with hundreds upon hundreds of arrested landings commit bolter after bolter attempting a night arrested landings. Some pilots are better than others at night traps. But none that I know of have ever mastered night traps. The pilots better at night landings are simply more skilled. But as I stated none that I've ever know ever mastered night traps.

Can you say Bolter..bolter?..the night bolters begin at 2:18.

lol, short words to end up any discussion between those who had never witnessed it and don't know how dangerous it is. For them it's it's just another skill to learn...

Err I don't think that Henri K is using the word in the manner you're thinking of.

I imagine he means it in terms of the Navy/Liaoning's pilots having enough confidence and proficiency in night time recovery to allow for night operations in a way that meets their operational requirements.
So I think use of the word "mastered" is pretty sensible imo.

I don't think anyone who reads that would imagine the word "mastered" is meant to suggest a 100% successful night recovery rate or anything...

Sofar China has mastered all the aircraft carrier operation by themselves with single accident. I believe you are not even here when we have skeptic who said China will never mastered carrier landing and launching .

He cite hundred of accident that happened when US navy learning the carrier operation. China will take 20 years to master it . Many of his fan still in this forum and they are proven to be wrong!

Night operation is difficult and dangerous as do the rest of other carrier operation.
But China will or already mastered it. The lack of photo doesn't mean it never happened.

It is not PLAN communication job to convince skeptic like you . They couldn't care less. Their message is for their own people to say progress has been made and will be made in the future

It is Henri K word and not mine and as Bltzo said by mastering he meant they have enough confidence and skill to move to succesful night operation. I think the next stage of carrier training is defensive operation where the whole CBG will try to thwart effort by the opfor to kill Liaoning They have achieved much in short 4 years give them another year to perfect their carrier operation. The training will get bigger and more complex

Pucker factor 10000. Night landing is impossible to master simply because there are 100 things that is out of your control. Ships listing, wind, deck rocking, and obviously you can't see nothing outside but the sweet voice of the paddle and the mini boss to guide u homes safely.

I'm not familiar with how night landings are done on aircraft carrier but I suppose just as on landed runways, pilots are assisted by PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicators) lightings during any landing and probably additional runway lightings during bad weather and night operation.
