Wow.. I did not know that. I know I've seen myself quoted in many different forums. Many.

I actually mentioned to you, 2 or 3 pages ago; and my first post at this thread, maybe at page 7.

There are vids all around, that people sworn under the Stars and the Stripes, to deliver the world to another height; there ain't that much occasions that foreign people actully intend to bleed in honor of the August First.

This thread, ANYTIME it was quoted to a Chinese online community despite the core interest of that forum (like, if I do it today, to a forum about Cartoon) - It generates HEAT, like non-other.

Maybe Finland is too neutral and not much military build up.

Last time Finland beat the crap out of Soviets, it delivered 2nd largest maihem to Soviets besides Nazis.

I think "military build up" is depending on each people's opinion, but "Finnish fight like devil, on their own turf", is a given. (To put it fairly, you can't say the same thing to the famous Iraqi "Republic Guardian" 共和国卫队 do you? - despite in the end, both Finland and Iraq lost.)

I've recently read an article on cracked where it talked about how people who were extremely famous overseas due to usage (sometimes illegal) of their photos on advertisements. Those people aren't even aware of the fact that they are so famous until someone told them.

I think this thread is sorta like the example I've given. Most of the non-Chinese members on this forum probably aren't aware of the attention that this thread generated on Chinese military forums. I've seen rehashes of the same topics being discussed from 2009 till now.

Really? I was not aware of that at all? Did this thread somehow go viral on Chinese BBS forums or something?

Not exactly viral but a lot of people commented on it. They were surprised that Western people are interested in joining the PLA. This is more like an "undead" topic that people create threads on once in a while.

They also liked sinodefence's discussion environment. I think I commented on that on this thread previously.

I ever seen this TV show, as I remember is in CCTV, yeah this kind of question ever showed up a bit in CCTV. If I not wrong is CCTV-9 "Around China" show. It show tall caucasian with Russian-like appearance, his taller than other Chinese ethnic when walking in formation (from the show it look he is the officer, the group commander) walking across dessert, he is border guard troop. His tribe living in some sort of yurt and play and singing playing mandolin-like guitar, the tribe living in Chinese border. I forgot the tribe name.
I know in China there's some ethnic are caucasian (Russian maybe), living for centuries, if they want they haven't any problem join with military.

I hope in the future PLA will loosen a bit to let the foreigner to join PLA as long they have Chinese citizenship. Not only in military but in defense industry too. I read that during Balkan war France send Foreign Legionnaire are Serbian ethnic, they deploy against Serbian army in mission and completed it.
I hope that PLA leader someday realize that people that came from different background and culture that join in PLA will enrich Chinese army itself. Like Deng Xiaoping said "Doesn't matter black or white cat as long they can catch a mouse" there will be Caucasian, African, other Asian beside Chinese citizen in PLA.

There already are many Russian engineers working in the Chinese defence industry.

perhaps off topic webmaster but I have a question.
During visits at local (Belgian) armed foreces displays I noticed that our soldier greatly over-estimated the capabilities of their weapons (sniper rifles, MG etc.) is this the same for pla personell or are they encouraged to "enlighten" themselves through study of other (foreign) resources??.?

Between the cultural revolution period till the early 1980s China wasn't really bothered with state of the art weaponry. People's warfare dictates that military spirit is more important to the soldiers than the weapons themselves. The Chinese military followed this concept until the Gulf War occurred. After this the Chinese military actually developed an unhealthy over-estimation of foreign arms. Originally the modernization of the PLAAF was supposed to focus around the purchase of advanced planes such as the Su-27s and Su-30s from Russia since the military thought the J-10 was just a "fishing project". It is fortunate that the CAC was able to strike back and prove themselves.

Can you site some credible sources that Russian Engineers was working in the Chinese R & D?

Same also, where can you find that J-10 was thought as a fishing project??

I can never imagine your own country launching an R & D, without trusting that it will materialize...

Russian engineers in China is an open secret. I am not downplaying China's R&D capabilities but they were necessary to help China bridge the generation gap in aircraft development.

The engineers at Chengdu genuinely wanted to make the J-10. However many members of the military were not optimistic about it. Much of the funding went to the big brother, the SAC and during much of the 80s the CAC had to sell bikes and refrigerators to stay afloat.

There were plenty of R&D projects that China launched that ended in failure. The J-12 is one of the best examples. The J-9 didn't even make past the model phase while the J-8 almost died due to the Cultural Revolution.
