China being a "mysterious" country to the west, and Chinese people can not change that perception - is only because too few western people learns Chinese... hehehehe

In our (Chinese citizens) mind, PLA is a force of heavenly holy and greatness. Their greatness is needless to say, and every Chinese recognize / acknowledge that .(their greatness) Even at the most hopless / helpless times, the scene of the presence of PEOPLE'S ARMY, immitiately gives people a sense of secure. Even those who are anti-governmental type, can not deny (their own needs for the sense of secure, during hopless times, for PLA to show up - mind I interpret).
They (PLA) helping their countrymen, is free (FOC), consider it an obligation, and with undying passion (- mind I interpret), I (the 龙空小三儿) have witnessed such live scenes countless times ( and me too, Red Sword). So to join the PLA is undoubtly a good choice in my opinion (for the Finnish guy who started this thread half decade ago)
To joining US armed forces (not only army the ground troops), one can only "harvest" hatred; To joining PLA, honor is his harvest, at the end of the day.

People can have different political views, but as for the image of PLA (among Chinese), it is un-disputable.

I've recently read an article on cracked where it talked about how people who were extremely famous overseas due to usage (sometimes illegal) of their photos on advertisements. Those people aren't even aware of the fact that they are so famous until someone told them.
I think this thread is sorta like the example I've given. Most of the non-Chinese members on this forum probably aren't aware of the attention that this thread generated on Chinese military forums. I've seen rehashes of the same topics being discussed from 2009 till now.
