More negative reporting from the impartial British mouthpiece, the BBC.

Instead of praising China's efforts, it start off with...... "in the land where the virus was first discoved" says it all really.

It was first formally and publicly discovered in China. China first reported it and did in fact alert the world. Sure there was a few days to weeks where it was a grey area depending what one believes from rumours and propaganda, but CCP did "act" upon the virus after that delay. Personally it's reasonable to understand why because there was so much unknown... literally everything. Could have been absolutely nothing since those first few days/weeks they were working with no information other than there is a lot of pneumonia.

Western governments have known about new strains for months and didn't report them. Those are all hindsight now.

Fact is it is first discovered in China or rather uncovered. It doesn't mean it originated there necessarily and it doesn't mean much more when we want to speculate about the virus being man made. Anyway how stupid would it be if CCP made the virus to release inside China. Why not release it anywhere else outside of China. Lot's of new information about the dodgy nature of all this but that's for another discussion somewhere else.

Actually that statistic is even more misleading when you consider the context.

Taking the last two week infected total of 86,617, halving it to get one week, and dividing by Israel’s popularise of 9m gives a weekly infection rate of 0.24%, so the vaccine is only about 83% effective at reducing the population wide infection rate, which is basically the ballpark it’s proving to be out in the wild.

But even that figure is probably massively inflated due to the fact that not all 9 million of Israel’s inhabitants would have been exposed to the virus.

To suggest that the vaccine is 83% effective at preventing Covid based on the above calculations would be like calculating car crash safety survival rates based on total number of cars in the country instead of the total number of car crashes.

I briefly read through the news article. It looks like the subjects were only tested for the virus when they come for the second shot.

The problem is this one PCR testing (during the second shot) may miss out on those that were infected but have already recovered when they come for the testing, or it may miss out on those who were newly infected but were too early in the infection to be detected by the PCR. This way the number of infected may seem significantly smaller than it really is. There was no mention of those who had been symptomatic but recovered before coming for the second shot.

You really see why it's very difficult to compare all the different efficacy results if the methodology of the different trials they were using were very different.

China Focus: China hopes U.S. will invite WHO to conduct source tracing

BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday expressed the hope that the U.S. government will invite World Health Organization (WHO) experts to carry out novel coronavirus source tracing research in the United States.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a press briefing after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in an interview that China's arrangements for WHO experts were not transparent.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, China has always maintained close communication and cooperation with WHO on the source tracing issue in an open and transparent manner, Wang noted, adding that the visit of WHO experts to China is part of the global scientific research cooperation on source tracing. The Chinese government has provided strong support and assistance to this end.
"Chinese experts have shared a large amount of information and research results with their counterparts and conducted several rounds of in-depth exchanges on scientific issues of common concern. WHO and international experts made positive comments on this," said the spokesperson.
Virus source tracing is a complex scientific issue involving many countries and places. Many clues, reports and studies indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic had already broken out in many parts of the world as early as the second half of 2019, Wang added.
He cited the example of a report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which says COVID-19 antibodies were found in blood samples from routine blood donations collected in December 2019 in the United States.
This means COVID-19 infections may have occurred in the U.S. at that time, earlier than the country's first official case on Jan. 21, 2020, he said.
"It is hoped that the U.S. side will adopt a positive, scientific and cooperative attitude and maintain transparency on the virus source tracing issue, as China has done, and invite WHO experts to carry out source tracing research in the United States, so as to make positive contributions to international anti-epidemic cooperation and scientific source tracing," he said.

I think you missed the nuances and subtlety of the BBC report. It is a matter of fact, that Covid was first discover in China. We all know that, this is not news. Nor this information is relevant on the BBC report.

Her report is about the chinese vaccines. But she took a snide side swipe at China right at the beginning of her report. This is how propaganda works, and it sets the tone of her report. Also, notice how under the microscope this report is for China's vaccines. But when the west rolled out it's vaccines, the BBC didn't bother to do the same type of report.

Indeed, with the new strain of Covid discover in the U.K. the BBC hardly ever mentions this.

This is why I said about the impartial negative British government mouthpiece AKA BBC.

The sad thing is that the damage has been done.
The unreliability of the news has had a devastating effect on public health.

1. No one trusts the vaccine(s)
2. People not wearing masks,
3. People purposefully flouting public health laws thinking they are making some kind of political statement. They think they are giving the middle finger to either Democrats, "liberals", China, communists, whatever.

The same (mis)information is constantly being repeated because it's already been in heavy circulation. People are still talking about bats even now, when pretty much the actual scientific community has moved on from that a long time ago.
However, the average person is not reading some scientific journal, but the Daily Mail or whatever.

Remember all those US stories about dodgy KN95's not being suitable for health workers? Now it is the recommended mask for the NBA (along with Korean KF94) and NFL. I posted about this before, but most exported KN95 were for "civilian use", never for doctors/hospitals. Just like in North America, the maximum protection health grade masks use the behind the head elastics, not earloops, to create the tighter fit needed for risky environments. This can be seen in photos from China, I didn't need to launch a special investigative report to learn it. The reason why earloops are used for the "civilian" masks is simple, they are easy to put on and put on relatively properly. Anecdotally, at the beginning of the pandemic (~Feb.) I was at a Chinese supermarket and a lady there had a medical-grade 3M N95 on sideways. Totally useless and a waste.

It is really disappointing to see the news today become more and more like Indian news. You obviously can't totally eliminate biases, but this has been absolutely brutal. Not totally surprising since Matthew Pottinger (former WSJ Journalist and then-Trump sycophant) was actively trying to seed narratives to form an anti-China consensus. The lab leak theory was created by him and Pompeo, with the "lab leak dossier". A few days later there was a release by the US' own Office of the Director of National Intelligence that basically refuted this idea, but it doesn't matter now, it's too late.

Anyway, ranting aside...

With the emergence of numerous outbreaks around China, can we make a hypothesis that the behavior of the virus is very similar to Cold and Flu where it seems to be more active in the winter? It might spread quietly in the summer months?
