If I am a Western media propagandist for criticizing the numbers before, then what is Hu Xijin?
He advocated for the ending of China Zero Covid policy. So he doesn't get the right to complain about numbers now.
China should continue to roll out en masse the CanSino Ad5 inhaled vaccine, update it and other vaccines for the latest Omicron variants, as well as continue to invest in and approve other mucosal vaccines that have a chance of sterilizing immunity like the live attenuated nasal vaccine being developed and tested by HKU. This could dramatically reduce the future burden of post-acute sequelae in China that the rest of the world has been facing with endemic COVID, ensuring that China definitively comes out ahead in terms of economic productivity and overall population health.
This omicron variant has to be the fastest spreading virus in recorded history, so is very probably that by end January or start of February between 40% and 60% population would be infected, so is not possible for the Chinese to roll out a vaccination campaign now because the virus is spreading many many times faster than they can vaccinate, so their best option is to wait until this wave die out and reinforce-boost the natural induced immunity with nasal spray vaccines and other vaccines. That will also boost the immunity of those who didn't get infected. So they will way more protected for future waves.

The Western media will have its fun, but once infections finally peak and China gets back to normal, then that would mean the world will be fully back to normal as well.
That is what COVID maximalists like Eric Feigl-Ding are afraid to, that the end Zero Covid in China marks the "end" of the pandemic globally.

The problem with the line of thinking that covid will 'peak' and life will go back to normal is faulty to begin with. Every where on earth that has 'let it rip' is STILL seeing deaths from covid, I've known many people that have gotten covid multiple times now despite having third or even forth dose. It only takes one person coming in sick mask off to wipe everyone out in the office. Yes it is milder and does not necessarily cause death, but the fact that it is becoming a far worse version of seasonal flu should concern everyone. Especially in a few months time when vaccines booster start waning across the world we should start seeing another global peak.

It seems to be mutating and reinfecting faster than we can develop new vaccines and roll it out.

I just don't get these people. They advocated for ending Zero Covid but now turnaround and talking about deaths. All of them are hypocrites and can be put in the same category as MSM.

Hu Xijin flips flops too often which has made him an opportunist. Many members here were no where to be seen and have not contributed anything to this COVID thread. But all of sudden, they appeared out of no where and first criticized about zero covid and then turnaround criticized about the reopening. And these same people think others should take them seriously.

Right now the biggest issue is that people are keep getting infected every few months. If flu is once a year, COVID would be at least 2 times per year. We have never seemed anything like this before and not sure how it would affect people in the long term after multiple reinfections and let along long covid concerns. But it is too late to do something now, so let hope for the best.

Bro, I was once infected with Omicron early this year, I remember the exact date Jan 3, after that never experience it. I had been inoculated 3 times using the Chinese vaccine Sinovac. Looking around me I see many friends and relatives using Pfizer keep on getting infected, one even getting 5 jabs....lol Vaccine only get you so far the best cure is to exercise, not abuse your body and a major change in your life style. :)

And unlike the flu you can't guarantee that every infection will be mild, I have coworker that family got sick second time and ambulance was called. Not to mention some people with long covid. It really is a sticky situation.

We are going back to "normal", Sars-COV-2 will still exist, it will probably still infect hundred of millions every year and still kill dozen or hundred of thousands every year, we are going to do what we do with every single other pathogen: we just pretend they don't exist. A big elephant in a room, is there, is annoying but we just keep watching TV.
Is recommended that in high Covid-Flu "Because they will come in pair now" season to use mask and take a vaccine booster.

My family only got infected one time during the last three years due to home remodeling after a pipe leak. However, I knew many people that got infected at least 2-3 times already. An elderly actually got infected twice within 3 months. It seems old people could get infected much more frequently due to their weak immune system.

Anecdotally, I was the only person in my family who got Pfizer + boosted from the hospital. And I got the worst covid symptoms compared to everyone else who got non-MRNA.

Everyone's body is different.
That said, if I'm going to get infected every 3 months, I'll rather not rely on natural immunity. :(

I'll probably see if I can get a non-MRNA booster some time next year.
Too much hype over updated boosters, newest variant already killed its effectiveness after a few months.
