I just thinking that if people protested to resume lockdown now (people have obvious reasons to do so, more than removing lockdowns even), would the government resume lockdown as fast as they are abolishing all preventions now?

The time to counter protest for COVID ZERO has passed along time ago, they should have go out were this NED funded protestors were and show them a thing or two, in favor of the policy. Now you have hundred of millions who have recover or are in the process of recovering, how do you tell that they have to stay at home? again? after all this ordeal?

Too many people are dying from covid in china , it's now overwhelming crematory.
This is exactly the same fearmongering we saw in early 2020. However, even the Voice of America admits that the current situation is different from early 2020:
  • The relatively mild nature of Omicron
  • The high vaccination rate in China
  • Chinese people's tendency for self-protection, such as wearing masks, avoiding crowd, and staying at home
Below is some Q&A from the VOA article. Ray Yip is an American epidemiologist and a former director of the China branch of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Professor Jin Dong-Yan is a virologist in the University of Hong Kong's Department of Biochemistry

VOA: What is going on in China’s hospitals?

Yip:
Most hospitals in big cities right now are overrun, but they are overrun from basically people with symptoms that don't have to go to the hospital...So right now, is there an omicron outbreak in Beijing, in Shanghai, in every place? The answer is yes. But that doesn’t mean hospitals’ intensive care is overrun and the number of deaths of the elderly is shooting through the roof.

VOA: Could there be a lot of severe cases that we just don’t know about?

Jin:
That’s not possible because the virus is very mild and the vaccination rate in the elderly is not very, very low. (According to government statistics, 86% of the elderly aged 60 or above have had two shots and 68% have had a third booster shot). It’s much higher than in February in Hong Kong (when a major outbreak occurred).

VOA: With so many new infections, is there a possibility that the same thing that happened in India will happen in China as omicron spreads, given that there are only 3.6 intensive care beds per 100,000 people in China?

Yip:
I don’t think that will happen in China. Omicron doesn’t do that. Omicron causes symptoms of cold. It doesn’t cause pneumonia. It doesn’t make you have trouble breathing. It’s upper respiratory.

Jin: That’s completely different because it's not the same virus and strain. That will not happen in Beijing. For most people, there won’t be need for respirators because it’s the same viral strain as in Inner Mongolia, and as you can see there are not that many deaths and severe cases there. The concept that the virus strain is particularly virulent and will kill a lot of people is wrong.

And here is Yip's concluding remarks:

Yip: That is true. I'll tell you why. China did this zero-COVID policy when the bad virus was around — the virus that killed a lot of people, the one you saw in India, in New York, in Italy, in many parts of the world. It killed a million Americans. Those were the older strains. So, China basically said, ‘I protect you during bad virus times, but we got a good virus now. I’m going to let you get infected. You will get sick. You will get a cold. But most of you, if you’re under 50, you have zero chance to die. If you’re over 60 and you’re immunized, you’re in good condition.’

So basically, China averted a major curve of COVID-related deaths. But I tell you, people in the West don’t like to hear that because it makes China look good. You should report it. What I’m telling you is based on epidemiology. It’s based on science. I’m not telling you based on politics.

Irregardless of what the reality on the ground is in China with Covid. China scores another zero when it comes to the PR. Why redefine Covid death's as only people that have died from pneumonia. And only report 8 deaths after 7 december. You must be out of your mind to believe that ONLY 8 people have died from Covid in the two weeks following the lifting of the restrictions. This is turning China into a laughing stock in the world and is opening the door for attacks against China on the international stage. It allows people with bad faith to spung whatever story they want about China's Covid situation and can make it stick to a certain degree. It does the government no good domestically either as it turns people more synical about everything the government says.

Unlike other countries, China prioritized vaccinating the more mobile young to prevent the coronavirus from spreading, said Ray Yip, the founding director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention office in China. A campaign targeting those older than 60 started in December, but it is unclear how successful it has been.

They “did not pay enough attention to assure everyone gets full vaccine protection,” Yip said. “How well do they perform this particular catch-up effort might determine some of the outcome.”

Jin Dong-Yan, a virologist at the University of Hong Kong, said while many countries faced issues with underreporting of major outbreaks for various reasons, such as asymptomatic cases or disincentives to report, the official tallies by China’s central government were so far off as to appear disingenuous.

“That’s unacceptable,” Professor Jin said. “They need to rectify this at some point — and the earlier the better.”

Together, the shortage of medication and high case counts in far-flung cities in recent days paint a picture of a virus that is spreading far faster than experts had estimated, Professor Jin said.

“We expected explosive outbreaks,” he said, “but this is much, much more devastating than the one in Hong Kong earlier this year.”

Ray Yip and Jin Dong-yan saying things people here definitely do not agree with, unlike in the VOA interview. If they were constantly being falsely quoted as some of you might assume, would they really continue agreeing to speak to Western media?

Tell that to a clear anti-China zealot like @in

And you freaking assume that even if the Chinese are doing what you think they should be doing (which is PR war, messaging) that somehow people who are anti-China are going to start thinking, you know what mate, what the see see Pee are saying is reasonable ain't it? And that somehow China can look decent in their eyes? What planet are You on dude. Has that shit you're suggesting ever worked in real life?

Do you think western politics work this way? That it's all about branding and the rest will follow like a bunch of sheep?

China can't and should not waste any precious time trying to massage outsiders perception, the government job is to ensure their people inside the country are protected, their lives are not wasted needlessly as what happened in the past.

India can get away with being slick in PR talking points as the case to their steadfast refusal in taking ownership of what many epidemiological experts, including the WHO that India lost 5 Million Indians to covid-19. The Indians are saying they only lost hundreds of thousands, despite the clear and convincing evidence of dead people literally floating in their rivers; dead people being buried on the streets of India, the cries for oxygen supply and many more. Despite that EMBARRASSING SETBACK India and the West have tagged the country's economic prospects in relative positive position. Would China have been given the same fictional narrative in the western media and government? You know the answer to this question already.

People focus too much on politicking rather than the meat of what matter most to the people on the ground living the reality of covid-19. Let the western world laugh (hilarious considering they lost so many people, recorde breaking deaths, vaccine with links to long term health issues) because that's all they can ever do. If we give in too much on how your enemies think then you're just wasting your time and valuable resources for no damn reason. As long as the Chinese people in China are being served well, then who gives a toss.

How are they being falsely quoted? You keep highlighting a doom and gloom scenario basically countermanding and contradicting what those experts have said, that at THE END OF THE DAY, THE DEATHS (YES THERE WILL BE DEATH BECAUSE THEY ARE UNAVOIDABLE) WILL NOT BE THE SAME IN SCOPE ANS SIZE AS EXPERIENCED IN YOUR STUPID COUNTRY WHERE YOU ARE A RESIDENT OF.

I do not even know what you're trying to push here.

Really funny how the two people this thread is praising for their insight turned out to repeat the same views that I expressed in this thread and was attacked for.

Why would he use the wording "much more devastating" then? Those are very heavy words. Keep in mind this article is much more recent than the VOA one. He may have revised his assessment.

Just got off WeChat with my infected grandparents. Their fever is more severe and they can't even buy Tylenol. My grandmother has been particularly unlucky since the SH lockdown.

Fuck those sellouts, forcing millions to suffer for a NED paycheque. I want those traitors to be held responsible, heads on pikes if possible.

My gramps also got it, so it shows 0 covid did work, very well even.

Just do the Tiananmen method, those people are not beneficial to ANY society.
