本土病例3472例 new symptomatic cases (Shanghai 上海3200例 and Jilin 吉林174例)
本土20694例 new asymptomatic cases (Shanghai 上海19872例 and Jilin 吉林342例)
How many deaths per day? Is this reported in Shanghai?

Edit: I don't get why deaths isn't reported by Chinese gov't. How can we calculate the CFR or mortality rate without daily deaths in Shanghai... O.O

No wonder Shanghai failed so badly in containing the virus.

Jia Yangqing, Alibaba’s vice president of technology, posted a clarification on his social media account on Thursday saying that he had not resigned from the company, and had simply traveled from Shanghai to the US to see a doctor.

Jia travelled from Shanghai to California, the US, in the middle of the night because of the situation in Shanghai, according to Jia’s Facebook post that circulated online. Jia’s post, written in English, not only criticized Shanghai’s epidemic prevention policies, but also described how he used his connections to get a pass to fly to the US overnight.

Jia wrote in a Facebook post that he found “someone with ‘connections’ to get a pass, crossed the city at 4 am in the backseat of a van” and “passed through police checkpoints in a don’t-ask-don’t-tell way.”

Jia’s mockery of Shanghai’s epidemic prevention policies in his Facebook post and use of connections to fly to the US drew a huge backlash from netizens and became one of the top trending topics on China’s Twitter-like social media, Sina Weibo.

Jia explained in another post written in Chinese that it’s possible to buy tickets and go to the airport normally when taking international flights after the quarantine date expires, and no special approval was required. Besides, the use of “connections” referred to asking a friend for help to contact a taxi to get to the airport, Jia explained.

“The English statement was full of contempt for Shanghai’s epidemic prevention policy and self-congratulation for exploiting loopholes, while the statement written in Chinese was vague and full of excuses to justify himself,” one netizen commented on Weibo.

Jia studied automation at Tsinghua University as an undergraduate and graduate student, and then went to the University of California, Berkeley to get a PhD in computer science. During his PhD, he created the source code for Caffe, a deep learning framework used by Microsoft, Yahoo, Nvidia, Adobe and others.

Alibaba announced on March 18, 2019, that Jia, a former Facebook artificial intelligence scientist, had joined Alibaba as a vice president of technology and to lead the research and development of the big data computing platform.
What should happen to this person that has essentially made a mockery of not just the rules/prevention control put in place for the pandemic, openly showing that vast amount of regular Shanghai residents are fools for being quarantined against some of their wishes that MONEY, POWER, Corruption are all you need to break the rules. Rules are for losers.

The hyper capitalists has literally co-opted the government in Shanghai to the point of impotence which is having a demoralizing effect not to mention a growing crisis of confidence by the loud minority that China's system is the problem, whic in itself a freaking problem because it tends to cause an overreaction from the central government that can and will only exacerbate the situation.

Correct me if am wrong but am getting the impression that the wealthier Chinese tend to lean more pro-west compared to your average Chinese. Shanghai being the center of the universe in China has essentially brought a sense of entitlement and privileges that most Chinese cities aren't afforded.

The current challenge in Shanghai and the governance exercised by leaders some of which were appointed by Pres.Xi don't reflect too well on the Chairman. Jian needs to be discipline or this incident will and can be used against the party.

Shanghai has always been the most westernized and 'liberal' Chinese city. I'm not terribly surprised they've bent over backwards to appease foreign shareholders, although I am disappointed. The Chinese government is known for very forcefully directing the flow of foreign investment to the benefit of the nation. Shanghai would do well to remember that it is a Chinese city, not a western one.

not wealthier, IT crowd. the cries of the IT crowd in China are overwhelmingly overrepresented. IT has almost all of the 996 work, so it's elevated to a general issue for society. IT crowd has people quit their jobs to do jack shit, so 'lying flat' becomes a social phenomena too. the IT crowd in China is exactly what you'd think it is: high pitched nasal whining, smugly arrogant towards other Asians but would fucking lick the ground of wht dudes if they could. I'm not saying all programmers in China are like this but a significant % are. I'd know, some of my relatives are them.

you have semiconductor engineers who voluntarily sleep in their office, are they crying 'omfg, 996, evil see see pee'? You have doctors working around the clock for covid patients, are they crying "omfg, 996, just wanna lie flat?" Only IT!

It has always been the case that wealthy Chinese are more pro-West. CPC's rise to power by siding with workers and farmers. Most of wealthy Chinese especially those older generations have the tendency to think keeping money in the US is safer. Same thing with Russian elites and oligarchy.

I know one Shanghainese lady who married one of my friend who is a Canadian-Chinese (who is also anti-China) who is very anti-CPC. They married last year around summer time. I discussed in amazement with them how China managed to control the spread of Covid-19 and prevent the catastrophic Chinese death if the government was negligent in their duties and responsibilities like all western based systems did. The Chinese-Canadian idiot shook his head and expressed his doubts about the number of cases not being reported so I had to destroy that nonsense. At that time I wasn't aware that his soon to be wife was also a virulent anti-CPC western loving person. While she did concede that China handled the covid-19 well, she still thinks that China isn't being served well by the party because you know, no freedom, and it's not under western style democracy. She also mentioned that she backpack throughout China, which led me to ask her if she had the chance to visit Xinjiang province. She said she did, and then I asked her what's her take on the western accusations of Uyghur internment camp, genocide accusations. She unsurprisingly said that those Uyghurs aren't Chinese and Xinjiang should be allowed to cesede. At this point of the conversation I couldn't hold my acid tongue anymore so I more or less interrogated/debated/corrected her surprisingly piss poor knowledge of Chinese history.

I flat out told her that Xinjiang has been a part and parcel of China since the time of the Tang dynasty and while the Uyghurs aren't "Han" Chinese they are still Chinese since China has 56 or so different ethnic group and even the last dynasty of China wasn't under Han Chinese but Manchurians/Jurchens. Additionally, the Xinjiang region wasn't an exclusively Islamic religion, Buddism used to be the major religion of the region up until the expansion of Islamic influence later on....

Then asked her if the modernization of the Chinese juggernaut economy was facilitated and made possible by the CPC and if she's that enamored with democracy she ought to properly compare China to that of India and see the results. By comparing China to the U.S. who's modernization, industrialization happened 100 years prior to China, not to mention it got free labour (from black slaves, Irish, Chinese) made that country's path to prosperity all but assured since it has also decided to liquidate the original natives that has lived in America for centuries prior to Columbus discovery.

At this point she shut the f... up along with her idiot of a husband.
