After this wave i don't think Hong Kong will need an Omicron specific vaccine, the quantity of cases is absolutely massive but the deaths had been "low" with 0.5% of the infected dying, compared with Delta in Chile were 1.5% of the infected die. Still the expansion is so rapid that is a shock for any healthcare system so i hope this wave pass quickly.

The Shanghai health authority issued an update on the confirmed cases during the 24 hours of Mar 13. There are 41 + 128 local cases. This is a substantial increase to what's reported earlier. It is also a jump from the below-100 numbers in the past few days.

I think China is definately opening up. They just don't do it like the rest of the world by opening the floodgates. They are easing on lockdowns and start counting the asymptomatic cases. I expect these cases will continue to increase, as long as death and more serious cases is kept very very low, they will be fine. They are doing endemic with chinese characteristics. The pro-west can continue to butt-hurt about it. The Chinese studies the western method and improve them. They apply this method in all fields and all of it work excellently. So expect more butthurt headlines like "China copy me, China bad".
Good news from CanSino. The aerosolized version of its covid19 vaccine solicites 6 times as much neutralizing antibodies against Omicron when used as booster to inactivated vaccines compared to homologous boosting at 14 days. The number is 5 for the injection version. Also the aerosolized version seems to produce longer term antibodies, with GMT against Omicron increasing between 14 days and 28 days after boosting. At 28 days, the GMT ratio against homologous booster increases to about 15.
All done with a dosage 1/5 of the injection version, which results in 5 times the production capacity. Very, very promising.

China has been reporting asymptomatic cases daily as a separate category from symptomatic cases since the early days of the pandemic. I remember seeing some numbers last year and the asymptomatic cases were fairly low compared to symptomatic cases. But now it seems like they are at 1:2~1:1 ratio. It could be due to the higher vaccination rate as well as the milder symptoms of the Omicron variant.
Does anyone has the historical data for daily asymptomatic versus symptomatic cases ? It will be interesting to see the trend.

Is incredible how many silent carriers of this virus exists. I am starting to think that if it wasn't for asymptomatic carriers we won't had a pandemic at all.
Possibly, SARS doesn't have silent carriers and got eradicated.
