That's a shame if it's true especially if the decision is made without the availability of data, early on, on how each of the booster vaccine types would perform in real-life.

You can't compare GMT numbers across different studies since the method of measurement is not standardized.

It's best to compare the GMT ratio between homologous boosting vs heterologous boosting. HKU studies shows SinoVac+BNT produces 7 times the GMT against Omicron as SinoVac+SinoVac. The ratio from other studies: 2 for Zhifei, 5 for Livzon (1st gen), 8 for SinoPharm (2nd gen) and 11 for Livzon (2nd gen cocktail). Zhifei is already approved for heterologous boosting, although some experts are against the approval as the benefits over homologous boosting is small. Livzon (1st gen) has preliminary phase 3 data and is applying for EUA in China. SinoPharm 2nd gen is doing phase 3 and has received EUA in UAE, but it has not yet applied for EUA in China. Livzon (2nd gen cocktail) has yet to begin human trials and I expect a different and better formulation to enter human trials.

I was a bit disappointed SinoPharm 2nd gen wasn't much better than BNT wrt GMT, but it's very mature technology. All four Chinese vaccines/candidates use traditional alum-based adjuvants.

I think Livzon should be approved ASAP after they finished their phase III analysis and publish all data. The same for SinoPharm 2nd gen. There are rumors about incoming EUA for CanSino's aerosolized vaccine, but I'm doubtful since they don't have phase III data yet.

The inception of dynamic zeroing policy in China made me extremely nervous for the outlook of China's Covid control. It seems like my unease is not completely unfounded.

Just keep on giving booster vaccines, instead of just testing like crazy.
