I get the impression that uptake of Sinovac in HK is very low in general.

This is kind of unique to their situation as Sinovac and Sinopharm were quite effective in Singapore to get the older folks vaccinated (according to my friend).

I remember initially there were some deaths in HK unrelated to either vaccine but happened soon after the people getting the shot and got over publicized (ie. person falling off a cliff). In Singapore there was a few cases as well, but eventually people shook it off.

Anyone have more insight?

This is kind of unique to their situation as Sinovac and Sinopharm were quite effective in Singapore to get the older folks vaccinated (according to my friend).

This is also probably true in Malaysian cities like Kuala Lumpur City, Kuching, and towns where most of the ethnic Chinese are concentrated.

Malaysia started off the vaccination program with mostly Chinese vaccines, (Sinovac before transitioning to Pfizer at the middle/later stages for whatever political or business reasons) in the cities and towns during the outbreak of Delta variant in the country. At the time, the Malaysian vaccination rate is like among the highest in the world which showed that there was really no problem with the acceptance of Chinese vaccines in these cities/towns.

An analysis of why HK is having big trouble containing the spread of Omicron by 马前卒工作室, a well known Chinese social media outlet based in Shanghai.

Video in Chinese (and if you don't mind the presenter's somewhat thick accent):

Having compared HK to SG, the presenter is very disappointed by the performance of the HKSAR government in handling the situation. He critisizes the SAR government and bureaucrats for being incompetent and lacking the courage to make tough decisions.

He goes through many things where the SAR government made mistakes, including low vaccination, loopholes in quaratine policies left open even after warnings, unable to enlist private clinics to offload pressure from public hospitals, not enough economic stimulus, etc. In his description, the SAR government is slow to react, talks a lot but shys in taking actions, thus often ends up with policies that lag behind the virus.

He draws the conclusion that HK has already lost the fight. Daily case numbers are no longer meaningful. The SAR government and the HKers need to shift focus to lower death rate.

To stop Shenzhen from becoming the next domino piece, mainland and the central government must give HK more support, he says. He even suggests that the central government should step up and impose direct ruling in public health affairs until it's over. At the end, he cautions the governments in mainland that they must pay close attention to HK as it is a lesson to learn from.

PS: 马前卒工作室 is a small studio that so far has been keeping sensationalism minimal in its contents. It is named after the social media handle of its primary author and founder 马前卒. The studio publishes its contents mainly on Bilibili. It claims that the data and information cited in its publications are all gathered from open sources.

Local cases in China up to over 200 today
Yep 214 to be exact. It was a bit over 100 yesterday IIRC. Omicron is making a wave in mainland.

These are the confimed cases with the symptoms and confirmed by PCR tests. They are mostly in Guangdong, Jinlin and Shangdong, with the rest scattered in other 10 provincial regions:

There are also 312 local asymptomatic cases (only confirmed by PCR tests I believe). What's concerning is that Shanghai has 45 and they are almost all over the city:

The "number of asymptomatic cases" is a new category added for Omicron in the data released daily.
