So how much of C919 now will be provided by domestic suppliers? I remember there was a graphic of c919 and most of the things were from the West. How is the progress going on for localisation?

It takes a long time to build up domestic supply chain. China will need thousands of local suppliers who could make parts and components that comply with the FAA certification standards.

A passenger jetliner has more than millions of parts if accounting for every rivets and bolts. And Chinese suppliers will need to learn how to manufacture these parts and components from ground up without any help from foreign companies.

They don't need to have the domestic version of the aircraft approved by FAA. It's very important to get it into service as soon as possible. Now that they've done, they can learn how to support customers. They get to work with various airlines on how to improve the aircraft over time. At the same time, they learn how to ramp up production and manage supply chain. As part of this, they will learn to utilize domestic supply chain. There is no chance CJ1000 will be as good as Leap-1C, but they will have some experience in helping to develop the domestic supply chain. Now that they have experience on certifying a commercial airliner, they will better understand how subsystem suppliers can be certified and the airline expectation with these subsystem. A lot of work ahead, so we will see what happens.

Idk, I have the feeling C919 will get sanctioned soon. Probably it will be started by some few parts, and then go on. I doubt China will retaliate to ban Boeing if USA starts with a ban just for few parts.
All sanctions over time have proven to be beneficial to China and detrimental to the USA, if they want to play that game with China's civil aviation sector I don't see how this would be different.

this is really an old picture. we have seen this in 2017-18, a lot things changed since then.

C919 localization rate reached at 60% .. include all joint ventures with foreign firms, parts produced locally.

by 2025-26 we have almost every single important component will produce in mainland include engine.

The very recent huge deal with Airbus seems to me that China is doing a presumptive retaliation to US. :D

I am not going to dismiss any possible sanctions, but sanctions are two edged swords, they stop China producing C919 while China's retaliation will starve Boeing. It is the same as Europe's sanction on Russia right now, Russia makes no money from Europe while Europe freezes in winter. Europe went suicidal at the pressure of US, but nobody is going to force US to go suicidal unless they go nuts. At that point, who cares?

Even though we mock the concept, decoupling is the new trend going forward. From a economics perspective division of labor is the most efficient, but new geopolitical reality means that it is not feasible to depend on imports.
