Do u know how long is the payback time for the capital investment?

I often read (for homeowners) that the payback time is 20 years for the solar investment. But if the cost is lower by half in 2 years, it is actually better to wait for 2 years to get a payback time of 10 years - despite paying a higher cost for 2 years.

When the cost is lower than fossil fuels I assume it spreads out the capital cost as the marginal cost to generate the solar and wind is relatively low.
I have not looked into that. I mean for Chinese homeowners, it's probably well under 10 years.

On June 15th, according to CCTV reports, LONGi Green Energy's annual production of 100GW of monocrystalline silicon wafers and 50GW of monocrystalline cells officially started in Shaanxi this morning.

It is reported that the project is located in Jinghe New Town, Xixian New District, Shaanxi Province. According to the agreement, the two parties will further leverage the advantages of Xixian New Area, a state-level new area and LONGi’s leading green energy industry, to carry out comprehensive and in-depth cooperation, jointly build a photovoltaic production base, and boost the province’s high-quality development to take greater strides.
According to the official introduction, the total investment of the project is about 45.2 billion yuan, and the total annual output value is expected to be about 120 billion yuan after it is put into operation. Covering an area of 3,081 mu, the project is currently the world's largest photovoltaic production base with the highest production capacity and the most advanced technology. After completion, it will create 15,000 jobs.
CCTV also mentioned that this single crystal battery with an annual output of 50GW can generate about 133 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, which can reduce the consumption of 48 million tons of standard coal, thereby reducing 103 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which is equivalent to increasing afforestation by 4.22 million mu.
It is understood that the photovoltaic industry is one of the 23 key industrial chains that Shaanxi Province has focused on building. Through the vigorous implementation of the action of extending the chain of the photovoltaic industry, supplementing the chain and strengthening the chain, the competitiveness of Shaanxi's photovoltaic industry has continued to increase, and it has gradually occupied the commanding heights .
According to the announcement of LONGi Green Energy, the annual production of 100GW monocrystalline silicon wafer project in this project is a slicing project, which does not include the link of monocrystalline silicon rod pulling. It is estimated that the first line of production will be put into production in the third quarter of 2024, and it will reach production by the end of 2025.
After the project is implemented, it will promote the gathering of a large number of upstream and downstream supporting manufacturers in Xi'an, making Xixian New District the largest photovoltaic industry research and development, production and manufacturing base in the country.

Big step forward for the LFTR. I think the emphasis placed on the fuel (Thorium vs Uranium) is a bit misplaced as Uranium is quite abundant and relatively cheap. The MSR design though is what may revolutionize the industry. Eliminating the need for gigantic quantities of water both significantly improves safety (pump failures doomed both Chernobyl and Fukushima) and allows the reactor to be built away from large water sources. It also opens up a pathway for on-line processing of nuclear waste.

As such, it could literally address all of the major shortcomings that other Gen IV designs cannot yet touch. It also has the benefits other Gen IV designs promise, like passive safety, modular construction, higher efficiency, on-line refueling, etc.

My understanding is that this reactor still uses a good amount of Uranium (forgot the exact percentage, but I wanna say maybe 70%?), but that IMO is just fine. Thorium use should increase over time. The important thing right now is to work out a containment material that can withstand hot, radioactive molten salt for decades at a time.

How long do you think it will take before China is A) Gets enough energy from domestic sources and land routes that it doesn't need the vulnerable oil/gas imports coming by sea from the middle east or B ) Completely energy independent to the point where it doesn't need any foreign source of fossil fuels at all?

For A, probably around 10 years, especially if China quickens her nuclear buildup and constructs even more pipelines from Russia and central asia. For B, maybe around 2050?

As far as i understand the water used is passed through the steam turbine condenser in the tertiary or secondary loop. Wouldn't large quantities of water still be needed then.

3.8B RMB to be invested in Ordos to produce 20k t of green hydrogen from 500 kw wind farm and 60 km of 220kV line. downstream this produces 150k t of amonia as well as other 0-carbon processes.
