Goldwind Plans to Build USD1.8 Billion Offshore Wind Power Gear Hub in North China
Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology, one of China’s biggest wind turbine makers, together with several partners is preparing to invest CNY13.3 billion (USD1.8 billion) to construct an industrial cluster for offshore wind and solar energy equipment in the coastal city of Qinhuangdao, northern Hebei province.
The project will include a wind power core equipment cluster, an offshore wind power and photovoltaic equipment hub as well as an educational training and scientific research base, the Beijing-based company said on June 30.
Goldwind and its partners will be responsible for introducing the wind power projects and will invest up to CNY9.3 billion (USD1.2 billion), it said. The firm will also collaborate with the Qinhuangdao municipal government to attract investors for a solar gear projects with total investment of up to CNY 4 billion. No further details were given.
In addition, Goldwind will work with the local government on the preliminary work for a deep-sea wind energy project, Goldwin said.
Goldwind aims to leverage Qinhuangdao’s excellent port resources and blustery conditions to turn it into the company’s North China manufacturing base for offshore wind power equipment, it said. The project will help improve the firm’s positioning in major coastal provinces to take better advantage of the rapid growth in the offshore wind power market.
