CGNPC's first GW sized offshore wind project has installed its first wind turbine for its phase 2

22km from shore, 31 to 40m deep. using 10 8.5MW turbines, 45 12MW turbines, 9 14MW turbines & 1 220kw offshore booster station.

first phase of 250MW started generating electricity at end of 2021. The remaining 750MW in phase 2 to start generating electricyt this year.

Of this 750MW, MY won 540MW in October's bid last year, worth 2.36B RMB and suppose to deliver all the turbines by end of July. This initial 8.5MW turbine likely by Envision.

Keep in mind that other projects have been designed to take as many as 2 years to complete, so I'm impressed they can go from bidding to starting generating electricity on such a large project in a year.

first 12MW offshore wind turbine by Mingyang has been installed. The first such turbine in China

18 such MySE12-242 turbines will be installed by August. wind farm will be 44 to 46m deep and 75 km offshore. Deepest and furthest ever wind farm built in China so far.

This is part of China's first offshore wind+aquacultra+sea water->green H2 project

Asia Times quotes a study from tianfeng securities which predicts that by 2030 compressed air energy storage (CAES) will make up about 23% of China's total energy storage generation capacity. Together with the government's goal of 120GW of pumped storage capacity by 2030, this implies that by then China will have about 187GW of energy storage generation capacity, of which 120 will be pumped storage, 43 will be compressed air, and 24 will be batteries.

Keep in mind this is generation capacity, which is a flow measure, the total stock of energy each medium stores would probably look quite different.

Can't personally comment for the quality of the prediction one way or the other, but if it's right then CAES is a hugely slept-on technology for ESS.

26B RMB investment for a million t level green hydrogen project got announced and to be powered by wind & solar

This is just the latest in a long list of large projects in Inner Mongolia
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!
Also 500k ton of methanol back in May for 14B RMB (Inner Mongolia project costs are just lower than other parts of China)
Another 20k ton of hydrogen back in late April for 5B RMB
Another 1.5GW of solar & wind producing 60k ton of hydrogen back in early April for 10B RMB
and a bunch of other ones

So many projects. Here we have 22.3B RMB investment for 2GW of PV that generates electricity, stores power & 60t of green hydrogen/day (21900t/year)

not at all. Too may to keep track of I'm afraid.

just taking a look at this. 9.6B RMB for 1.2GW of pumped hydro storage (not sure how may hours that can store). normally for battery ESS, it's 1 to 2 ratio bw GW to GWh

Longi has now started building its largest PV base in Xian. Huge base btw. The capacity for PVs will continue to explode. Already projected to be 750 to 800 GW by end of this year. It will cross 1000 very soon probably getting to 1500 in a couple of years based on the recent expansion plans.

And demand for it especially for non centralized projects will become higher as ESS products flood the market with cheaper & more innovative solutions like this Huawei FusionSolar

If the price is going down too fast, would it mean it would be losing money to build huge PV farm because waiting for 1 or more years could result in more savings than the extra electricity that are being generates? Same thing for wind power .

loser wind and solar prices means it cost less money to build renewable farms. Why would you wait to build such farms when you can only build so many projects at a time and it is already cheaper than fossil fuels?

Do u know how long is the payback time for the capital investment?

I often read (for homeowners) that the payback time is 20 years for the solar investment. But if the cost is lower by half in 2 years, it is actually better to wait for 2 years to get a payback time of 10 years - despite paying a higher cost for 2 years.

When the cost is lower than fossil fuels I assume it spreads out the capital cost as the marginal cost to generate the solar and wind is relatively low.
