Ming is up for sell? That's weird, that'll buy it? The thing is a piece of ......... It might be quiet as a SS, but it is noisy for a SSK. And it is rather old and slow..... and avonics?

I don't know anybody who would want a Ming. It's very outdated and of little value to modern day sub ops. If China wants to open up it's sub exports, why don't they sell the Song class? That's a very respectable and capable diesel sub. It looks as though the PLAN is moving forward in diesel design anyway with the Yuan SSK. Another good one.

both Song and ming are up for export. I'm also questioning who would want a piece of junk like Ming. I guess maybe some African nations would want it?

Ming is far from a piece of junk. I hope you didn't think that that was what I was implying. Ming is just an older design with a noiser running cycle, low-weapons load-outs, low endurance, and antiquated sensors. Not a piece of junk...just older and less capable when dealing with modern platforms. Ming is definitely suitable for coastal defenses of port facilities. But as a warfighter in the modern sense, it wouldn't be very useful. Kilo's and Song's are another matter entirely.

I think Ming's duty in PLAN is pretty much just to lay mines and defend against much less capable navies. Of course, it would be cannon fodders in a war against Japan or USN.

yes it not as capable but it can fire the sub launched c-802 like the song

also the late builds for the south sea fleet has sensors camparables the kilo 877

so it might very well be useful in costal water where it can hide

sorry, I'm not a sub expert. I'm just going to say Scorpene, because the Chinese subs are generally more noisy than the Western subs. Yuan was developed to be better than the modified Kilos in my opinion. It probably can't compare to the noise level of the latest SSKs like Collins, Gotland, U-212/214 or Scorpene. It will be interesting to see whether or not China will import some Amur in the future.

Even the Rubin developer was mentionning that Yuan had some legacy designs on it that are not present on the latest generation of SSKs.

Like all things french, the scorpene has extremely advanced controls for its systems. The control room on a scorpene puts a kilo's control room to ridcule. French intercept sonar sets are also very good(used on 91's), so id say a scorpene bests a yuan when it comes to controls ans sensors, however good the elctronics on a yuan may be.

Noise is rather idfficult to say. The socrpene hull was hydrodynamically designed to be very quiet, and it features MESMA aip. A lack of information from the chinese side makes comparison difficult, and we can oly make estimates based off of the song and kilo.

If the yuans are fitted with Aip, they will be comparable to scorpenes. thats all i have to say

From what i have heard in Australia, the Collins class is one of the noisiest modern SSKs. Correct me if i am wrong. But there had been many problems related to its noise which was reported in Australia. Correct me if i am wrong because maybe they have fixed it by now.
