My understanding is that individual unit of chip is tariffed if it enters US. If it's pre-packaged as part of assembled product, then it's not tariffed. Very little chips are imported for local US assembly, and if they are imported, more often than not part of an pre-assembled product not subject to tariffs.

In other words, unless you are building a gaming PC from scratch with a Loongson CPU chip, then you don't have to worry. Par for the course of US election season, all virtue signalling symbolism and superficial grandstanding.

This whole thing is clearly performative. Solar panels were already tariffed and goes through Thailand and Vietnam to by pass tariffs.

CATL already opened a factory in Cali. They were always going to do US batteries anyway, so again by passes the tariffs.

USA already blocks all Chinese EVs. Literally nothing is affected.

And as you mentioned, no one is buying straight Chinese chips anyway. It's all packaged.

Everything here is for show. The only question is who are they performing for?

this is an interesting looking on Kirin chips step forward. Kirin 9010 already moved SoC forward from 4MB Level 3 cache to 8MB. The next step would be to go to 12MB Level 3 cache and 2MB Level 2 cache.
Other Improvements include GPU and NPU improvements coming from Mate 70 SoC. We will see.
