Foxconn’s New Chip Facility: What Does it Mean For Chinese Semiconductor Policy?

Notably, the packaging facility also serves China’s semiconductor industrial policy by using the country’s domestically produced lithography machines. The new packaging facility has reportedly purchased 46 lithography machines from SMEE to support advanced packaging technologies such as Flip Chip, Fan-In WLP, Fan-Out WLP, and 2.5D/3D.

the GVC participation rate - increased from 37.9 percent in 2000 to 44.6 percent in 2019. The change implies that China is moving toward a more upstream position in GVCs

Among China's GVC exports, the contribution of high-tech manufacturing increased significantly, pointing to a sign of its upgrading.

China's potential demand has allowed developing economies to catch up all over the world. Developing countries should invest in infrastructure to see the opportunities that the rise of China has provided

infrastructure can accelerate the participation of developing countries in the global industry and supply chains, and the idea of infrastructure connectivity for unimpeded trade of the Belt and Road Initiative aims to accelerate this process.

Within two decades, China will likely have the largest middle class in the world, larger than the US and EU combined

The latecomer dilemma, by the time SMEE launched their FrontEnd lithography machines in 2016-2017 the market was already monopolized by ASML. Most companies are accustomed to ASML and they are not going to change for the sake of patriotism. Now the sanctions have changed that, if SMIC does not have access to ASML machines it means that they must collaborate with SMEE to develop lithography machines and ensure its future. In theory is the same thing that happened with ASML and TSMC, they helped each other. Again, hopefully
The destiny of most highly technical product segments is getting monopolized by a few anyway. Especially if the industry is also cost-sensitive. Semiconductor production equipment is cost sensitive and extremely high tech. A monopoly has been formed as the result. It is impossible for anyone to rival ASML without substantial long-term state support. I think we will see a global ASML competitor from China in less than 15 years. If it comes to that, China also has a lot of arm twisting power to force foreign fabs to buy Chinese machines as it is the largest market. And I think it will start practicing it gradually if the USA continues behaving like this. I know you are familiar with all of this BTW. I writing for others.

Read the entire thread?!? Anyway... He is new member... It might be necessary if his is not too familiar with lithography and the state of the Chinese semiconductor industry in general. My field is mechanical engineering... It is from this thread and others such as the one started by the infamous Tidal Wave that I familiarized myself with the basics and a little more with regards IC chip manufacturing processes, especially with regards to lithography. Reading from this and related threads and using this and other threads as a basis to do google and YouTube research.
@Weaasel same bro BUT in my case I had a Bachelor Degree, this thread is synonymous to PLA watching, like Forrest Gump used to say "You never Know What You Gonna Get" ;) . You dismiss it out right and it bite you back with a lot of surprises.

Interesting analysis by this author about the Chinese semiconductor manufacturing equipment industry. Very different from the 'crap' that you read in the SCMP.
In summary:

1- Chinese equipment companies are growing quite fast and have managed to establish themselves in almost all areas of the manufacturing process.
2- The market share of large foreign companies is still monopolistic, but with the size and dynamism of the Chinese semiconductor market (and my opinion the current geopolitical events) means that they have a lot of room for growth.
3-Their technical capabilities are increasing fast with some producing equipment that even compete in the international market, they have strong and weaker areas, the strongest area is wafer processing, cleaning and the weakest is lithography that is monopolized by ASML, A change is expected with the launch of SMEE's 28nm lithography machine in 2022.

In my opinion, I believe that Chinese semiconductor companies are well positioned to take Chinese future market share by storm should the US government decide to sacrifice its semiconductor industry for the sake of "national security." Even without the sanctions it is undeniable that many of these companies in the near future are going to take a larger share of the semiconductor market.

Patience,
@badoc exactly bro, A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step and I'm optimistic to say we are Midway through, a lot of arduous struggle lies ahead and it won't be easy. BUT looking at the history of CPC they had succeeded before and it symbolized the will of the Chinese. THE Long March (same struggle, same road blocks and hopefully same result) the epitome of supreme sacrifice, an inspiration that Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei often quoted to his employees.

If Trump did win the election in 2024, he will be looking at a different China, a stronger and more confident. Instead of following his China policy of confrontation, he will changed course and blame Biden for making it happen and the damage it had done to American IC industries, he will then do a Nixon and claimed victory ;) . The exceptionalism that exemplify the American Foreign Policy is it owned downfall, you just can't slap people without expecting a retaliation, the humiliation and anger it cause will be returned tenfold.
this is world leading stuff that will need some time to show results
.
Bro as long as we achieved self sufficiency at 28nm (Planar) and 14nm (FinFet), we had a foot at the door so to speak. Other improvement will be a Cherry on a Cake. We had establish a Basic Core Competency in all IC field from Litho, Chip design and etc. We will have a partial harvest in 2025, perfect timing for an Incoming Republican President and expected full harvest in 2030.

Heyan Technology: Strive to upgrade the domestic dicing machine to the world's advanced level.

Heyan Technology was established in January 2011, specializing in R&D, manufacturing, sales and service of precision dicing machines. The company is headquartered in Shenyang, and currently has East China headquarters and R&D centers in Suzhou, and service centers in Xiamen, Dongguan, Chengdu, Nanchang, Xi'an, Nanjing, Nantong, and Zibo. There are 2 authorized agents in overseas markets. The company is based on "Heaven, Earth and People, Refinement and Thinking", and strives to upgrade the domestic dicing machine to the world's advanced level.

In 2021, the company’s main product DS9260 fully automatic wafer dicing machine has been introduced in large quantities by domestic packaging and testing head companies for the 12-inch wafer dicing process, becoming the first manufacturer to replace Japanese imports in the field of Wafer saw. The brand of dicing machine used in mass production has realized domestic substitution in this field.
