I think Samsung wants to test the water banking on Biden admin won't sanction like trump admin. If Biden admin threaten samsung, you will see Samsung quickly retrieve.
Good bet from Samsung I would say. Biden needs S.Korea and he would be reluctant to put more sanctions on Huawei in such a manner that it will affect S.Korea's premier company.

That would be declaring China illegal, which would be sort of like slavery.

It figures, that they have to use that card.

Samsung is currently obeying US law. They are using American inputs and not selling to Huawei.

If Samsung uses no American inputs and sells to Huawei, that is perfectly legal under US law, and a normal business transaction.

If they want to outlaw that too, they might as well just declare Samsung and Huawei are just slaves of America.

That is too much. Ren Zhengfei is not even black.

Just look at the case of banning Huawei equipments. It's non of US business yet it imposed its will. Not many western countries use Huawei 5g. Same thing to sanction Huawei even if others use non US tech

Of course, I understand the concerns, but I think there is a lot of good news.

:D

All this is a rebuke to the West’s China policy of recent decades. When Western leaders welcomed China into the world trading system in 2001, many of them believed that it would automatically become freer as it became richer. When that did not happen the Trump administration tried coercion, tariffs and sanctions. Those have failed, too—and not only in Hong Kong. America has led a three-year campaign against Huawei, a firm it accuses of spying. Of the 170 countries that use its products, only a dozen or so have banned it. Meanwhile, the number of Chinese tech firms worth over $50bn has risen from seven to 15.

If Samsung is manufacturing 5nm chips for Huawei it is great. But the US might simply ratchet up the sanctions again. Just look at what they are doing with Nord Stream 2. They threatened Allseas with cutting them out from SWIFT and freezing all their dollar denominated transactions. Let's not forget they also appropriated Venezuelan assets in the US including refineries (Citgo).

And what? Huawei is basically enlisting Samsung to R&D on de-americanised chips lol.

So while domestic companies are already working on this, Huawei is also hedging a but by contracting a foreign supplier to remove us components.

Either way its win-win for China. Now they are transitioning to foreign suppliers themselves removing US items lol

I think majority western camp countries not using Huawei even if not outright ban.

Any ideas which western countries actually still have contracts with Huawei.

My point is , it's non of US business, yet countries yield because of US pressure.

By that logic, I suspect Samsung will buckle if US piles pressure.

So all this will become false hope.

Look at the case of Thaad. South Korea really didn't want to but succumbed to US pressure.
