Yes, perhaps the bankruptcy of MIPS Technologies has taught them that there isn't much money in the MIPS world anymore. I still wonder why they are dropping their own architecture. What value can they possibly add to the RISC-V world, that other people would pay them for? What can they do that other companies like Huawei and Alibaba can't?
They can license their existing patent stock for the RISC-V world, if they even have useable patent or didn't sold the rights yet.

Will the United States further restrict suppliers from supplying Huawei? The Ministry of Foreign Affairs answers

Zhao Lijian stressed that the facts have repeatedly shown that the United States is an unreliable and untrustworthy country, which not only harms the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises, but also harms the interests of enterprises in the United States and other countries, will seriously interfere with the normal scientific and technological exchanges and trade between the two countries and the world, and cause damage to the global industrial chain and supply chain.

@WTAN or anyone else on here: any truth to this? TDM seems to know a lot of his stuff
I really doubt that ASML would dare to go against the wishes of the US and supply the EUV to China, even with a Chinese Light Source.
ASML has so far refused to use Gigaphotons 250W LPP Light Source as an alternative. ASML solely uses US Company Cymers Light Source.
The US Admin would just threaten to sanction ASML and this will bring it into line.
If China produces a suitable Light Source with Source Power of close to 200W (threshold for mass production), China will just produce its own EUVL.
The Light Source is the last hurdle for the Made In China EUVL. The Optics and the Dual Stage Workbench are ready.
But i think that once China produces its own EUVL, ASML will then be approved to sell its earlier model EUVL to China. ASML will sell this at a heavily discounted price in order to undercut and cause losses to the Chinese EUVL manufacturer. This is the special concept of Western Free Trade and Competition.

@WTAN will the Chinese FABS take the bait? why settle for the second best (ASML old model EUVL) if the Chinese one can be improve upon? I think SMIC may try but Huawei and others will definitely not having tasted the pain of sanction a lesson truly learned.

China by then should immediately raise tariffs 1000% on imported IC foreign equipment sales. And if EU wants to do the same, let them it doesnt matter, EU market for this kind of system is 0.

And if Xi is smart he could use the behind the doors way, by mobilising these parties committees that there are in the companies to stop them from buying

Germany knows that.
Mercedes-Benz largest customer is China.
BMW largest customer is China.
Audi largest customer is China.
Porsche largest customer is China.
Actually i would say that the Australia situation was a message to the whole world. Seems that the EU got the message that China was prepared for its economy to feel pain if it meant safeguarding its interest.

So the EU folded, the RCEP countries got the message that you cant just ignore a 10m tall giant, and ultimately for the US, if you want to forcibly decouple fine, lets see who can better handle the pain.

Germany especially although it might sounds strange seems to be playing the EU card and hedging with Russia and China
