CTI Testing Weisi Bojinqiao chip experimental base officially opened

On December 5, CTI held the opening ceremony of CTI-VESP Jinqiao chip experimental base in Jinqiao Industrial Park, Pudong, Shanghai. Shentu Xianzhong, President of CTI Testing Group, said that chip semiconductor analysis and testing has always been a strategic development area that CTI Group has focused on investing in. Since 2019, CTI has deployed five major laboratories in this field in Jinqiao, Pujiang, Zhangjiang, Hefei, Shanghai, and Hsinchu, Taiwan. The newly built Jinqiao laboratory base is the largest and has the most comprehensive service capabilities. RA/ESD professional laboratory.

Taiwan’s market saw a nearly 50% reduction in sales, while the Chinese market achieved a historic step, crossing the 40% threshold of the global sales share for the first time

Taiwan’s market sales dwindled to USD 3.77 billion, a nearly 50% decline from the same period last year (USD 7.28 billion), ranking it as the market with the highest contraction among the top 6. Conversely, the Chinese market experienced a remarkable 42% surge, reaching USD 11.06 billion, constituting 43% of the global sales for the first time and surpassing the 40% mark. This solidifies China’s position as the world’s largest semiconductor equipment market for the second consecutive quarter. Japan witnessed a substantial 29% drop to USD 1.82 billion, North America decreased by 5% to USD 2.5 billion, Europe grew by 2% to USD 1.7 billion, and South Korea faced a significant 19% decrease to USD 3.85 billion

, “We have seen around 20 to 30 new customers, and going forward we expect to see the Chinese market grow even further.” Kawai also added, “We have already received inquiries from China for CY2024, so we can expect some visibility. Our forecast for the first half of CY2024 in particular shows that China will continue to represent around 40% of sales by region.”

Is because China has a big backlog of equipment to be shipped and they haven't cancelled their orders because obvious reasons, so now their share is the biggest in the world, basically US semiconductor toolmakers are surviving on the backlog of their Chinese buyers. Imagine if the stooges in the WH decided to listen their Chinese hawks counterparts and decide to ban "mature tools" too. How big the suffering of these companies would be?

A Chinese company that sells equipment to purify semiconductor gases.

Dalian Huabang Chemical Co., Ltd. is a Dalian high-tech enterprise jointly established by several gas purification experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and returned scholars, with a registered capital of 30 million yuan. Sales have exceeded 50 million for five consecutive years, with sales exceeding 100 million yuan in 2018, with an average growth rate of 25% over the five years. The team masters core technologies such as catalysts, adsorbents, and getters, and has focused on purification technology for 20 years. Main product system: development and production of ultrapure gas purifiers, hydrogenation catalysts, material refining preparations, NOx purification devices, and on-site supply and management of ultrapure gas;

Winbond Chemical has a scientific research team led by gas purification experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and returned doctors, and has established a "ppb-level high-purity gas purifier R&D team." Invested one million yuan to build a high-purity gas analysis laboratory and successfully developed the HPC-9N series purifiers. The products have been successfully used in many domestic 12-inch production lines (Dalian, Wuxi, Guangdong, Shanghai, Qingdao, Wuhan, etc.). A

Two lithography overlay companies in China ara getting into lithography machines.
one is MZSemi with non contact full field exposure machine.

The other one is developing a projection lithography machine, which is way more advanced.

So the low end lithography machine space is getting crowder. SMEE needs move into the IC frontend lithography space pretty fast and sadly, for SMEE to win some sales ASML will have to lose some sales

Alan and Gina: China-Hawks we need money to mess with China.

CSIS Greg Allens' article says BIS/Commerce dept. lacks manpower, lacks resources to monitor and enforce end-use requirements. The article also says US intelligence on Chinese semiconductor development is woefully inadequate, US doesn't know what's going on in China's development. So it's entirely reasonable for My Gina to submit a request for additional resources to enforce export controls and improve intelligence on China's development.

Rep. Mike Gallagher's committee does not have the authority to tell BIS/Commerce dept. how to do it's job or what entity to add to it's list. It goes beyond the scope of their roles and responsibilities. So essentially this is mental gymnastics to save face and decline My Gina's request for additional resources. "Until you out-tough me on China, I won't give you more money to actually be tough on China!" Republicans are calling for cuts everyone to control deficit spending.

Taiwan, China, announces a list of core key technologies: 14nm and below chip manufacturing, advanced packaging, etc. are prohibited from being obtained by mainland China

The list of 22 core key technologies announced that day was submitted to the administrative department of Taiwan, China after collecting opinions and discussions from all parties.
18. Chip (IC) manufacturing technology for 14nm and below processes and its key gases, chemicals and equipment technologies
Here we go, this is the first attempt at banning all the materials for advanced processes. I'm afraid it won't remain the only one.
US is now clearly pushing their "allies" to extend bans on materials, next stop will be Japan...I read this today news as an anticipation of what we will see much more broadly in 2024.
If this is true, China needs to immediately ban all sales of rare gases, like neon gas, to Taiwan. Export quotas for rare gases must also be setup so that Taiwan cannot get their supply from someone else without paying dearly for it.
China should also ban all imports of LCDs, PCBs, Polymers, Chemical Products, and Textiles from Taiwan altogether. China should also accelerate the replacement of imported low end chips by slapping taxes on all cars and appliances sold in China which use imported chips.

Its tells more, the China hawks republicans want to go all nuclear on export controls on China but they don't want to deal with the economic fallout in a potential GOP led administration so they are putting a lot of pressure on the Biden to go nuclear before the next elections so they can blame any potential economic damage on Biden.

An industry official explained, "Products produced by Chinese mask shops are of lower quality than those of TOPPAN and Dainippon Printing (DNP), so more blank masks and pellicles must be used." He added, “When producing the 7nm process through DUV, a larger number of photomasks must be used compared to extreme ultraviolet (EUV),” adding, “SMIC is preparing the 5nm process through DUV, and photomask usage is expected to increase further.”
