New progress in this 12-inch silicon wafer project!

Wang Minwen, chairman of Leon Micro, said at the third quarter performance briefing meeting that the company's compound semiconductor radio frequency chip orders are full. The Haining base factory has reached its peak and is expected to be in the fourth quarter of 2024. It will be put into production and operation in the quarter;

Jiaxing Jinruihong's (subsidiary) annual output of 1.8 million 12-inch lightly doped polished wafer projects is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2024. Current sales are mainly test wafers, and the technical capabilities of 12-inch semiconductor silicon wafers have covered 14nm Logic circuits and storage circuits of the above technology nodes, as well as image sensor devices and power devices of the technology nodes required by customers; silicon carbide business is one of the company's future business development directions.

Leon Microelectronics is a semiconductor power chip manufacturer focusing on the design, development, manufacturing and sales of semiconductor power chips, covering silicon single crystal drawing, silicon grinding wafers, silicon polishing wafers, silicon epitaxial wafers, power devices and Multiple production links upstream and downstream of the semiconductor industry chain, such as compound semiconductor radio frequency chips , integrate the full chain technology (IDM) from materials to devices.

Jinruihong, the main body of silicon wafer production, has four silicon wafer production bases, Zhejiang Jinruihong Technology Co., Ltd. located in Ningbo, and Jinruihong Technology (Quzhou) Co., Ltd., Jinruihong Microelectronics (Quzhou) Co., Ltd. and Jinruihong Microelectronics (Jiaxing) located in Quzhou Co., Ltd., its products cover 6-12 inches semiconductor silicon polished wafers and silicon epitaxial wafers. Among them, Zhejiang Jinruihong has the production capacity of 6-8 inch semiconductor polished wafers and epitaxial wafers. Jinruihong Technology mainly produces 8-inch polished wafers and epitaxial wafers. Jinruihong Microelectronics (Quzhou and Jiaxing) is mainly engaged in the 12-inch semiconductor silicon wafer business.

if you look at Samsung's timeline, they first started production of 12 GB LPDDR5 DRAM in July 2019. So, CXMT is about 4 to 5 yrs behind here

Now Samsung did this using 2nd gen 10nm process (so D1y). Maybe this is CXMT's 17nm process, who knows. next step is 16gb PDDR5.

Since Micron actually got to D1b without EUV, there is actually nothing preventing CXMT & domestic tool makers to achieve D1z
GDDR, DDR, and LPDDR are actually independent of each other. They are different lineages of DRAM technology despite borrowing tech developments from each other heavily. So if we be technical, calling LPDDR5, DDR5 is factually wrong. Yet we can conclude that China advanced beyond DDR4. Because LPDDR5 is quite similar to DDR5 and outperforms DDR4.

If we consider 7nm and forward to be advanced node, then advanced node accounts for 46% of total foundry share. Far from the popular myth circulating on internet that demand for advanced node is small, advanced node only has tiny share of overall chips.

That's just total foundry revenue share. Where is total foundry shipment volume share?

To illustrate, Apple has 80% of total operating profit share, 42% of total revenue share, but only 14% of the shipment volume share. It would be erroneous to conclude that Apple dominates the global market based on operating profit or revenue shares alone. That's only because Apple has high list prices and huge profit margins, despite (significantly) lower volume shipment.

The same logic applies to process nodes. 7nm and lower command higher list prices due to increasing R&D expense, so the total revenue is higher per unit, but the total shipment volume is still much lower than mature nodes.

I don't think I said anywhere that DDR5 and LPDDR5 are the same. But it would seem to me that LPDDR5 should be slightly harder than DDR5 due to the power consumption requirements

CXMT probably went with LPDDR5 production before DDR5 because of higher customer demand for that product. It is as simple as that.
Yes, I would think you are 100% right here

Theoretically speaking, the increased revenue from these sales should enable CXMT to increase R&D and make faster advances, but who knows if that's the case in practice. Samsung/SK only moved to using EUV with D1a and Micron still did not use EUV by D1b. There is no reason CXMT cannot at least get to D1z over next yr or two.

Loongson releases next-generation computer CPU 3A6000 in Beijing on Tue. The CPU is self-designed with key indexes comparable to global mainstream products, which observers said marks China’s new breakthrough in homegrown CPU design..

The Loongson 3A6000 processor uses a fourth-generation LoongArch, an instruction set architecture (ISA) processor. It is manufactured using 12-nanometer technology and features a quad-core design, with an operating frequency of 2.5GHz. It adopts a domestic instruction system and structure, and it belongs to a new generation of general-purpose processors that are self-developed and technologically controllable.

The Loongson 3A6000 is comparable to the Intel Core i3-10100 and AMD Ryzen 3 3100 CPUs in certain key functions, according to tech website Wccf tech.

"The release shows that domestic CPUs have reached a new height in self-sufficiency and performance. It also demonstrates that China is capable of producing first-class products based on a proprietary CPU structure," Shi Huikang, an official of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, told media outlets.

Wrote up my thought on this
I do think that this is pretty good progress by LoongSon, even if they took half a year longer than expected to release this product (at least I got the impression it was coming out 1st half of the year).

But now they are also able to license LoongArch ISA and core for other chip design shops and that opens up a lot of things.

Their goal is to have ISA that can support different parts of the market.
I'd imagine supercomputing center will very gladly use this new LA664 core design for new supercomputers, since it's performance is so much higher than previous LA464 core

rather interesting one here. Chinese company is investing 200m RMB at a SiC project in Russia. This might be first one of the type i heard.

based on news from last year, this is to produce 42k ton of SiC. 70% for export to China and ASEAN countries
