No Chinese cos in top analog IC suppliers? Are China not active in that field? What about companies who do their products in mature nodes

Life is strange, US forbids US passport holders to work in China, and, thanks also to this rule, thousands of highly trained R&D people suddenly are now free for Chinese companies to take...they even don't have to move to China, they are already there.
They do this in the middle of chip glut and possible recession? What would happen if any 1 of them unfortunately need to do chapter 11?China was their 3rd largest research center after American and Israel. They had over 6000 employees at end of 2021 and the China operation had almost 1000 people with 800 at the research center. So yeah, a lot of R&D there going by the away side. We probably won't know the entire damage for a while.
It also said that Micron closed shop in January and they had 100 people doing DRAM research. TI also closed their MCU shop in May. Although, I think that's probably due to facing too much Chinese competition.
@tokenanalyst I remember you said AMAT also have large R&D center in China? That would be a huge gift for NAURA/AMEC. There is also all the trained technicians that will now be able to service Chinese tools.
I mean after looking at that Chinese supercomputer/data center number yesterday, I kind of get what the security people are coming from. The future industries are going to be dependent on these large data centers, AI servers and supercomputers that do so much computation in developing new technologies and supporting research. As recently as June, they were still at 150 EFLOPS in computation power.
And they have plans to grow to over 200 EFLOPS by end of 2023. 50 EFLOPS in 18 months is a lot. And China is building data centers for everyone else in the global south.
This is a pure economic war. America does not want China to have more computing power and discover technologies first. As far as the politicians/think tankers are concerned, they are going to contain China at all costs and once they defeat China, they will have the entire spoils for themselves. They are not concerned about Japan beating them. But what's likely going to happen is that China continues to build all of its data centers and successfully build its own semiconductor supply chain.

Yes, Applied Materials was one the first Western semiconductor companies to establish offices and a R&D center in China in 1984, older than some people here, in Xian to be especially, yes they also have a lot repair centers in various places in China probably with people who know those tools as good as the designers themselves.@tokenanalyst I remember you said AMAT also have large R&D center in China? They got removed from their positions by some white dude who bought stake at the company. Now, he is going to ruin it.In case people don't know, Marvell was founded by a Chinese lady with her husband. She was originally from Shanghai.
The guy said it that he didn't coordinate with his trade counterpart. So if members here are confused why BIS looks like destroying US tool makers revenue, etc. There you have it.

It's more like the U.S. is desperate because it's too late too litter. Below is the opposing view from David P. Goldman. He is someone who has some real knowledge about China and economics, because of his credential as an investment banker who did business with China.“This is not about the economic destruction of China... We’re not looking at a decoupling, that’s not where our focus is.” Solely about “national security.” lol
