Micro LED mass production

Recently, the first phase of the full-color Micro LED project, which is co-operated by the Institute of Physics and Architecture of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Mindu Innovation Laboratory, the Fuzhou University team, and Zhaoyuan Optoelectronics, has come to an end.

It is reported that the project undertakes a major scientific and technological innovation project in Fujian Province. At present, the first phase of the project is about to complete the theoretical and technical engineering phase research, and it is expected that full-color Micro LED will be fully mass-produced in the next 3 to 5 years.

According to Fuzhou Daily news, Zhaoyuan Optoelectronics and the Li Yang team of Mindu Innovation Laboratory have joined hands, and at the same time enterprises, universities and scientific research units and other resources have formed a joint force: the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences has quantum dot preparation and spraying technology, and Mindu Innovation Laboratory has quantum dots. Point forming technology, the display control technology of the Fuzhou University team is leading in the industry, and Zhaoyuan Optoelectronics has advanced chip manufacturing technology and expensive equipment such as MOCVD, optical coating machine, lithography machine, etc.

@dengyeye bro they are, they will double their production as most of the component manufacturer finished their expansion plan in 2023 as SMEE SSA800 had just finished its verification last year.
@ansy1968 , when you say 'double their production', how many system is that a year?

just curious, does anyone think SMEE will have enough capacity to serve the domestic demand by 2023? If not, when do you think SMEE could fully address all the demand?

Of course, the Western press portrays every advancement China makes as "copying". Nevertheless, they have to admit reality even while gritting their teeth.

Perhaps this shows us why the US is now pressuring the Dutch government to ban even DUV exports to China. I speculated that this push by the American government indicates that progress in China is faster than we realised.

Could it also be possible that TSMC "shared" the technology with SMIC ? After all, it is a "Chinese" company and has to position itself for post unification.

TSMC is too big a player in the global supply chain that even the US may not be able to risk disrupting its operation without serious repercussion to the US semiconductor/electronics industries.

@Rettam Stacf bro there is a cross pollination of talents and ideas as Mr Liang Mong Song came from TSMC and others that SMIC recruited.

@hvpc a ramp up production in 2023, 2021 was the year of verification, as they fine tune the machine, they are finalizing the plan to increase production with feed back and the improvement that were made as the result of the verification. So my speculation is 8 to 12 units this year and maybe 24 next year as the expansion plan are finished.
