China’s Top Chipmaker Achieves Breakthrough Despite US Curbs

  • SMIC has started shipping 7nm chips, TechInsights says
  • US suppliers need licenses to ship most advanced gear to SMIC

Is this true? If so LOL for America
@NiuBiDaRen Now I'm afraid a ban is coming and I hope SMIC Beijing FAB will be ready by next year.

@mossen bro there is some truth cause without Liang Mong Song (LMS) a former TSMC employee, SMIC will have a hard time. Now we awaits SMIC 5nm and 3nm, this is Mr LMS baby and fully SMIC project.

I had a discussion with @hvpc and the conclusion is that ASML may restrict the export of NXT 2050i the latest DUVL BUT not NXT 1980i and 2000i to satisfy the Washington DC hawks.
To clarify, it’s not my conclusion. That’s just a general speculation from people I talked to at a recent conference. Hard to say how far the hawkish republican zealot would go but hopefully they’d stop once they could claim some sort of victory (a compromise to ban only the most advanced immersion instead of go for complete ban of DUVi).

@hvpc bro sorry for putting words on your mouth, so I apologized, IF ASML do restrict selling NXT 2050i to assuage the Hawks will that be a go signal for SMIC to go all out producing 7nm chips? they're already been punished so why restrain themselves?
