it looks like Huawei is buying small fabs of SMIC
@olalavn and bro any news on Hisilicon 14nm 3D chiplet which they're planning to introduced next year, from what I know since Huawei Shanghai FAB maybe focusing on 28nm and 22nm auto chip, they may do the packaging using SMIC unfinished 14nm chips? like they did with Kirin 9006c 5nm chip with TSMC.

14nm 3d it is already in trial production... in Huawei Enjoy 50.... test chips will not have an official name.

Of course, the Western press portrays every advancement China makes as "copying". Nevertheless, they have to admit reality even while gritting their teeth.

Perhaps this shows us why the US is now pressuring the Dutch government to ban even DUV exports to China. I speculated that this push by the American government indicates that progress in China is faster than we realised.

@mossen bro there is some truth cause without Liang Mong Song (LMS) a former TSMC employee, SMIC will have a hard time. Now we awaits SMIC 5nm and 3nm, this is Mr LMS baby and fully SMIC project.

I had a discussion with @hvpc and the conclusion is that ASML may restrict the export of NXT 2050i the latest DUVL BUT not NXT 1980i and 2000i to satisfy the Washington DC hawks.

Having read the little excerpt from TechInsight, they are also in agreement with what I said that the "7nm" chip they analyzed are N+1 chips. And that these chips is a precursor or a learning step to get to true 7nm or N+2. But since other articles that are hyping TechInsight's analsyis are all calling this chip 7nm or N+2, I'm sure the hawks will jump on this twisted "truth" to push their agenda along. The part about 'smoking gun' and the 'hawks' is my guess. Maybe the hawks had been aware of this or maybe they are learning about this for the first time....I'm assuming they know about it but have no solid proof in making my speculation.

Hope this clarifies what I was trying to convey.
Unless I’m looking at a different report from you, nowhere does it identify that the chips are of the N+1 node. The report only refers to the chip as 7 nm.

I am bit confused here.

I thought "7nm" was the name under which TSMC marketed one of their processes. Referring to the "minimum sized feature".

How on earth can you deduce with what process a chip was made with just by looking at it? The most I would think you could deduce was the chip has power and performance characteristics comparable to a chip produced by a given TSMC process.

How would you see that the process was "copied" from TSMC? And not stolen from say Samsung or Intel? Or a proprietary self developed process based on double pattering using the ASML equipment all fabs pt. are using.
