hvpc asked me about the news on SMIC Chengdu evaluation.of the 28nm. Also alot of members question the location SMIC Chengdu.

Here is my answer to him.

expand...
There are couple Chinese news presented that. The location of SMIC Chengdu looks very dubious. However, I thought the technical aspects doesn't look like it made up by average layman that maybe worthwhile to take a look as there are few systems out there being evaluated. This news could the technical aspects leaked by SMEE insiders as some of them big shrimp does posted them on a Chinese website which last year taken down. The insider may not want the reveal the exact customers. And the SMIC Chengdu thing could be made up by some one outside and run with it.

Keystone (kingstone semi), a subsidiary of Wanye Enterprise, delivered the first equipment of new orders to customers

On April 26th, the first move in ceremony of the large beam ion implanter of Keystone Semiconductor, a subsidiary of Wanye Enterprise, was successfully held in the customer's factory. This is the smooth delivery of the first batch of multiple sets of equipment (Ion Implanters) to complete the order in only 3 months after Keystone received an order from a mainstream 12-inch chip manufacturer in China in January 2022. This time, as the first batch of equipment entering the factory, customers and the company attach great importance to it, and a grand entrance ceremony was held at the customer site. The relevant person in charge of the client, the relevant person in charge of Keystone and the key members of the Beijing Keystone team attended the ceremony.

The leaders of Keystone who attended the scene fully thanked the customers for their great trust and support. In January this year, the company signed an equipment order of nearly 700 million yuan with this important chip manufacturing plant. The customer regards Keystone as one of the important strategic cooperation suppliers. The successful delivery of the first batch of equipment as planned today is of great significance. The two parties will take the move-in of this batch of equipment as a new starting point to promote longer-term cooperation in the future and open a new chapter for the next capacity expansion.

At the same time, the customer leaders also highly affirmed the dazzling achievements of Keshitong as the new back wall and the vanguard, and expressed their optimism and high expectations for the quality of Keshitong's equipment and services.

@hvpc thanks bro for the explanation, so it's possible IF ASML want to? knowing they owned CYMER why add a competitor , what IF SMIC or the Chinese gov't insists , there is no downside as a way to escape the restriction?
A requirement for them acquiring Cymer is to run the DUV laser division as separate entity. ASML can't favor Cymer over Gigaphoton. If Cymer can't sell to YMTC, I don't think ASML could make Cymer do any differently.

Anything is possible, of course. But like I said it's a lot of work to covert from Cymer to Gigaphoton already. If they need to make system compatible with RSLaser I'm sure it's even a much bigger effort to change all relevant parts and then have to qualify RSLaser as a supplier.

If YMTC is smart, maybe they had ordered only scanners with Gigaphoton.

@hvpc bro so ASML can work with RS Laser, in the future to maintain the China market as SMEE SSA800 DUVL come of age with greater numbers, why not established a Chinese supply chain thus making it sanction proof? Since DUVL is yesterday tech, why not allow themselves that luxury? So SMEE need to knock out ASML from its Hubris complacency...lol

you may be onto something. Didn't ASML and SMEE look into partnering up before? Maybe ASML could license some of the technology to SMEE to build DUV scanners for China.

ASML can keep supplying the world & SMEE will build their own variant for China. ASML makes money both ways from the scanners sold and the licensing fee. And since US can't touch SMEE any ways, SMEE ship tools to anyone in China and is happy. And Chinese fabs buys SMEE scanners without worrying about sanctions from Uncle Sam, and they are happy. Everybody happy. except MAGA folks. LOL

@hvpc It will also solve ASML supply chain issue, maintain it leadership and with that increase profit. Bro ASML need to hire us both to advise them...lol. BUT the hubris need to be tempered, right now ASML is leaning to much on the American to restrict SMEE instead of working together, so they will have a rude awakening as SSA 800 DUVL achieved IOC.

Localisation is key. The race is started. China must do all it can to localise key technologies as quick as possible. Someone is not interested in win-win but containment of Chinese Nation. I have feeling that Chinese do excel in Semiconductors.
