Anybody know why SMIC 14nm production is still low despite supposedly getting good yields? Is it just not as profitable as legacy nodes? Or are they waiting for for new built factories for that?
it is dependent on imported equipment and has to compete with TSMC, UMC, Samsung and GloFo in this node. They may not have either a cost or tech advantage for this node.

The first domestic self-developed 8LP double overhead crane system SORTER successfully passed the certification of end customers

On March 28, 2022, the sorter (wafer transfer equipment) of the first 8LP double overhead crane system in China, which was independently designed and produced by the R&D team of Shanghai Gona Semiconductor Equipment Co., Ltd., obtained end-customer certification. Wafer transfer equipment has once again achieved a technological breakthrough on the road to localization; as a cutting-edge enterprise in the manufacture of semiconductor transfer equipment in China, Ye Ying, the founder of Gonar who has just been named one of the "2022 Most Notable Female Entrepreneurs" Under the development of Ms.'s layout, after just over a year of rapid development, it has been recognized by many well-known semiconductor equipment and manufacturing companies in China. The team responds with high-quality and fast service to meet the customer's customized product development concept; Technical problems, benchmarking against the international advanced level, breaking the technological monopoly of the industry, and achieving breakthrough in corners. This is the key to the healthy development of the domestic semiconductor industry, and it also represents the great progress made by domestic automation equipment in the segment of the chip industry.

If Apple tries to 'kill' YMTC, CCP will definitely kill Apple in return - and they won't even have to try because Apple has put all its eggs in China's manufacturing and consumer base.
No I don't think so. I think Apple is more important to CCP than YMTC. Just like Huawei CEO's families all use Apple products, Huawei CFO was carryign bunch of Apple products, CCP can't live without Apple products. CCP officials use Apple products. Even Xi Jinping's wife uses Apple phones.

I don't have the same love for Huawei here. Doesn't matter who succeeds. Just need someone to succeed in all part of the supply chain. Given all the sanctions on Huawei, I think it's more likely other Chinese companies succeed here.
I don't believe you have a good reason to think the US government put all the sanctions against Huawei but would do nothing about other Chinese companies succeeding. Again I smell sour grapes here. Huawei is sour we don't need it just throw it away.

Right, becoming Apple supplier makes it far less likely to be sanctioned. Apple has significant lobbying power inside the congress. Make no mistake, this is a great thing if true.
There is Samsung for a easy alternative. Ditching YMTC is easy for Apple and sanctioning YMTC is good for helping the South Korean company.

So-called Apple's lobbying power didn't stop the trade war in Trump era and didn't stop the US government from imposing sacntions on the Xinjiang matter.

Luxury consumer goods like Apple phones are the most disposable 'commodity' when push comes to shove. No one is going to capitulate just because they can't get LV shoes anymore

Not sure if you are serious or not. Huawei holds an advantageous position of (a) being world leader in 5G tech and (b) having a deep tech development pipeline. These are what matters for China, not shallow consumer brands. If and when other companies get sanctioned, it will be because they are approaching leading edge, and the existing tech dev pipeline is what will keep them alive.

If you are trying to infect people's minds with a defeatist attitude, it's not working.

CCP literally told Apple to contribute billions of dollars to economic and tech development of China or GTFO. Apple needs China, not the other way around.

Same with Tesla and Elon Musk. China made these American billionaires the richest companies and individuals in the world.
