Feng, let me explain what I think happened.

China DID show some interests in Su-35 especially 117S engine. This is way back in 2008, and they still have some interests in 117S engine now. China wants to buy 4 Su-35, Russia insist selling 48 WITHOUT any tech transfer. China says ok, how about 24, BUT there are condidtions:

1. Unlimited supply of 117S engine, plus full ToT of 117S engine.
2. Su-35 must use Chinese avonics and be able to use Chinese munition like PL-12, and other PGA.
3. Su-35 must comes under 65 million per plan which translate to 1.5 billion total.
4. Su-35 must be Su-35S the same version Russia airforce is using.

If these condition s are met, China is willing to buy 24 Su-35. Now lets go to Lada class SSK.

China DID show some interests in Lada as well especially its tech. But China require some great deals !!!

1. Two will be build in China and other two in Russia.
2. Full tech transfer.
3. Great price, 4 for 2 billion USD plus full TOT.

These are GREAT deals for China but NOT so much for Russia.

Russia has been getting its a$$ kicked left and right in recent arms deals.

1. Completely lost India's MRCA.
2. Completely lost in India's transport program, C-17.
3. Lost more than 5 billion dollars of arms sells in Libya.
4. Losing Syria as well.
5. Vietnam is completely broke and can not even affor second hand Su-30.
6. Hugo Chavas is DEAD and new venezuela leader likely to be pro USA and Highly unlikely to buy any more arms from Russia.

And most important of all. China is Whopping a$$ left and right.
1. J-20 came out in 2011.
2. J-31 came out in 2012.
3. Y-20 came out in 2013.
4. China's carrier Varyag joined PLAN in 2012 without ANY Russian assistant !!


China sees all these and is very confident now approaching Russia for any arms deal. This is why this Su-35 deal gets dragged on for so long !

Because China ask for too much.

Russia is not going to take this deal because they get almost nothing out if it !!!

End of story !!

Russia has been clear on this one. They are not selling 117S by itself. It has to come with Su-35. They are not stupid. They know Su-35's main improvement are its engine and radar and that's what China would be interested in. On top of that, they will not give China the license and ToT on 117S unless there is a huge order on it.

As for why the sudden change in some of our views on the likelihood of this going through? The reason is that quite a few of the "big shrimps" on Chinese bbs says this is happening. btw, I'm not advocating this purchase. I htink Lada part makes a lot more sense than this one.

The Kremlin finally comes out to deny the Su-35 purchase rumors. They never said anything before when it was their media putting it out there? Now they say something when it's the Chinese media. It puts them looking like they're in control from either end. It looks like China is the one begging for it.

If the deal is NOT signed between Xi and Puting then it is NOT going to happen !!

In the past, when China buys large amount of arms from Russia like: The 4 sovs, 12 kilos, S-300, SU-27, Su-30MKK. It is always signed between the top leaders or during the official visit ! It did NOT happen this time so the news is bull crap !!!!

As it turns out this time the Russians denied the news !

You are very right. BUT China is NOT taking it because China will buy 24 the MOST plus China wants unlimited supply of 117S plus full ToT.

China knows that Russia is getting its a$$ kicked left and right in recent arms deals and China knows that how powerful she has become and how advanced Chinese defense industry has come. This is why China is not taking it !!

Russia neither sell 24 Su-35S with full ToT of 117S or it is Not going to happen.

Feng you are also very right about the reason behind this deal. First there is some claim that 24 Su-35S for a stop gap. This makes NO sense at all. 24 Su-35 can not do much. If China want a stop gap she will get more than just 24 most likely 48 or even more. China insist 24 only show that China is willing to buy Su-35 only for the 117S engine.

Sincer Russia is not letting go 117S ToT. It will Not happen.

As it show, Russia lost face again. This time they DENY it. lol


Guess whats next !!

Russia is going to say that India is going to buy 500 Su-35, Vietnam is getting 200 SU-35.

I suggest this thread be closed forever. This fiaso has gone far enough hahaha...... anymore future reports of China buying Su-35 should be ignored. It's just plain nonsense.
