Chinese Internal Politics

It would only mean war if it can be conclusively proven that the act was committed by a foreign power. Besides, it doesn't have to be a predominant political figure, but could be important scientists, military figures, etc. as well. It could be done overseas to make investigation difficult and even a mild sickness could open up a window of opportunity for further infiltration.
What US sees, China also sees. There are few if any secrets that can be kept, especially not anything that has paper trails.

If the Americans really had the capability to poison high-level Chinese officials with deadly pathogens and get away with it, why would they risk this capability being uncovered on a relatively inconsequential diplomat? Don't you think they would go at someone who plays a really important role in national development/security, like He LiFeng or Zhang YouXia? Then it might actually be worth the risk.

People get sick, especially older men who have been eating lots of pork and doing office work their whole lives. This borderline-schizo paranoia about American intelligence being able to somehow teleport in and sneak stroke juice into senior party officials' tea cups does not belong here.

Not that I'm subscribing to conspiracy theories about Americans poisoning Qin Gang, but your specific argument is bad. This is because the US has a long history of making ambassadors to US or UN die mysteriously. Unlike the other CPC officials you mentioned, Qin Gang was in US for 2 years, which makes it more possible that the US could have done something to him.

for sure qin gang was dismissed due to disciplinary/security issue. if he had to step down for health reasons the media would have just said so, much less controversial than to remove the guy with no explanations. no need to read too much into it, officials of all posts get caught committing all sorts of crazy infractions and crimes all the time.

State councillors are considered higher than ministers in rank. If he keeps the state councillor title, it is not a demotion or punishment. We will have to wait and see. So far it just means that he has lost the ability to carry on as the FM which requires a lot of travelling. That likely indicates a serious health issue which is not necessarily from covid. We just don't know until the authority discloses it.

If he was found having serious misconduct, he would be subject to the party's discipline which usually comes first.

AFAIK, state councilors can only be elected/removed by the full NPC, which meets only once per year (usually in March). So the fact that Qin Gang kept the state councilor title is not indicative of anything.

Also, in cases of disciplinary problems, party discipline usually comes well after the removal from office. For example, in the recent case of

So folks are now asking/debating whether the NPC Standing Committee has the power to remove state councilors (who are considered state leaders 国家领导人) when the NPC isn't in session. The answer is quite clear based on the NPC Organic Law as amended in 2021. Yes, it does.

Not true any more.

Read the law

on how the NPC and its standing committee work, in particular the two clauses I quoted below:

第三十一条  常务委员会在全国人民代表大会闭会期间,根据国务院总理的提名,可以决定国务院其他组成人员的任免;根据中央军事委员会主席的提名,可以决定中央军事委员会其他组成人员的任免。

第三十二条  常务委员会在全国人民代表大会闭会期间,根据委员长会议、国务院总理的提请,可以决定撤销国务院其他个别组成人员的职务;根据中央军事委员会主席的提请,可以决定撤销中央军事委员会其他个别组成人员的职务。

The first party discipline is usually the public announcement of the person in question under investigation. This is the chronical order of events on 周江勇:

Thanks guys, I stand corrected. In light of this, Qin Gang remaining as state councilor is quite meaningful.

Completely baseless.

Also media did say he had health complications.

So what is under question is just how severe the complications are, not anything else.
