basically just says that the high altitude testing for the core of an engine (speculated to be WS-15) has been completed.

it's just the core of the engine that completed all of the high altitude testing. WS-15 project should be proceeding at least that fast.

Approximately how long did it take for other engines to be mass produced after their core was tested at high altitude (assuming the tests went well)?

So, does the article say it was placed on a plane? Or are we talking simulated high altitude tests? I'm no expert but wouldn't you need put a complete engine on an aircraft to test it, not just the core? I suppose you could, but I don't know if that was the path taken with the WS-10

That picture surfaced 1-2 years ago(?). I believe then it was said you can see the WS-10A being tested in that shot.
