Chinese Economics Thread

This article confirms what I have been saying.

Quote from the article

Lauri Myllyvirta, lead analyst with the Helsinki-based Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, said northeast China currently had 100 gigawatts of coal-fired capacity, which would be more than enough to meet demand if plants had the incentive to buy more coal.

"Not a single grid region has reported peak loads that would be even close to exhausting available generating capacity," he said.

From what i gathered its that coal price and energy production from said coal exceeds what ever suppliers want to pay for that energy. So those coal energy generators would be selling their energy at a loss.

and if they don't what the rest of the world is gonna do about it?
You guesses it right: pay more for less goods. What choice do they have? Move to a place where there is more electricity? Where is that?

Nowhere? No problem we will start building coal plants. Who's gonna fund them and build them again after papa Xi said no one in China can offer finance or expertise?

This is the perfect time to do it. Because to be frank, the rest of the world sucks our dicks for their supplies. SEA and India have been fucked by COVID. Africa can kiss those coal plants goodbye. American power grid cannot sustain a 1mm snow fall. EU? Laughable.

Don't be fooled by industrial output calculated by monetary value. A Boeing jet may be worth as much as 10 billion rolls of toilet paper but the entire US cannot make 10 billion rolls of toilet paper.
You, my friend, get it. You completely get it.

The saliva sprinklers here should read what you wrote very carefully.

I don't think recent China power outage is about cutting emission. Because even semiconductor companies are affected now,I don't think that's what government wants to see.

It it is about cutting emission, there should be a scheduled power-cut date that is available to publice at least months before. Because you don't just suddenly cut-off power, that will cause huge damage to production lines which need to run 24x7. You need to give companies enough time to adjust production schedule.

I recall reading the news recently China's electricity generating capacity has continued to increase in the first 3 quarters of this year. I don't think they would increase capacity just to cut it for emission reasons.

One possibility is an unexpected increase in economic activities: factories trying to fulfill backlog orders, partly caused by the pandemic, from within and outside the country.

In this case, it's really a positive thing since it is the increase in economic output that is causing a shortage of electricity due to
demand surpassing the usual capacity.
