Have you seen the BLUE slogans on the wall? They sound like sh*t now! They read: Hidden dangers are more dangerous than open flame, precautions are better than rescue , and responsibility is heavier than the Thaishan mountain.

I guess someone didn't take that to heart and unfortunately pay a price for it.

The slogan is useless if they don't know what precautions to take in the first place. For example, most people don't know what is the single most important precaution to take when using flammable gas.

All those little kids stuffed in that micro bus. 17 little kids(64 passengers in total). Imangine putting your child on that microbus wishing them wll for that day and then being called in to ID their little mangled body. Tragic & and Shameful.

It's apparent to me that China needs a major review or revision of it's laws re guarding safety. If there are any. weekly I read about the horrific accidents in China. No safety = tragedy. What about any of you members that have visited or lived in China? Is not safety a part of the culture? I'm always surprised that despite the number of hits on thsi thread there's is little response to the accidents. Betcha if it was an PLAAF aircraft crash and any non Chinese stated anything negative about the crash there would be a fire storm of statements. C'mon gents....What up with safety laws in general in China? What's up?.

LANZHOU, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in a school bus accident that occurred on Wednesday morning in northwest China's Gansu Province has risen to 20 following the death of one child later Wednesday.

The victims, including 18 preschoolers and two adults, died in a head-on collision between a school bus and a truck in the city of Qingyang, said an official from the city's work safety bureau.

The accident happened around 9:40 a.m. in Yulinzi township of Zhengning county, according to a statement from the bureau. The statement said five people died at the scene, including four children and their bus driver, while 15 others were confirmed dead by midday.

The bureau has blamed overloading for the accident, stating that the bus, a van with nine seats, was carrying 64 people, most of whom were children from Yulinzi's Little Doctor Kindergarten.

The statement said another 45 people, mostly children, were injured in the accident and have been hospitalized. Thirteen of the injured are in serious condition.

The truck had a license plate from neighboring Shaanxi Province and was carrying coal, the statement said.

Re: Chinese Daily Photos, Videos & News!!

Six months ago I went back to China for vocation. My hometown is in middle China near the YangZi river. One day I went out for dinner with my family, after that when we got out of the restraunt, a truck with full load of construction materials directlly rushed to me.I was lucky my familly pulled me out of the road......and the driver even made no appology to me, he just left with his truck......
The only thing I want to comment is that the Chinese economy is rising so fast that in the street it's full of trucks which seems so at least in middle China.I had ever noticed that ten trucks passed in front of me in less than 15 seconds. The truck driver in China seems only care about one thing-save the time, run faster and transfer more stuffs to get more money.
I want to show the Chinese truck drivers my middle fingle and would like to live in a world without the Chinese trucks. But you know, without those trucks, the Chinese economy will slow down which means there will be no bread for the Chinese.

There's accidents happening everywhere around the world. So why picked on China and its "safety" law? I have a friend who's mother got killed from a bus accident in Sherman, TX on her way to a Catholic pilgrimage 2008, yes there were a back lash on the bus company owners, and charter bus safety, BUT NO demand for a change in "culture" by Americans. Don't get me wrong, I can see you're caring for the victims in such a tragedy, but don't you think your comments a little bit too condescending?

This is also common in Cambodia. A 12 seats micro bus is modified to carry 40 kids (mostly Chinese school) without air conditioner, only one fan for all. Imagine the heat of Cambodia, 30+ degree C. Fortunately there has not been any major accident regarding school bus yet.
