Every day millions of children across China make the vital journey from home to school to receive an education. For some it is a perilous journey crammed into the back of an overloaded van with no safety precautions.

On Nov 16 in Gansu province, 21 people, including 19 children, died after their nine-seat bus carrying 64 people collided head-on with a coal truck. The Ministry of Education urged schools and kindergartens nationwide to conduct safety checks on their school buses.

The crackdown has begun, but as seen in these shocking images, the lessons from the Gansu tragedy have gone unheeded. In different cities across China, dozens of little kids - some standing and without seat belts - are still jammed into shoddy vehicles.

Bai's job is to take care of the children on the bus. Local government of Deqing County has invested 20 million yuan (3.14 million U.S. dollars) to order 79 school buses, which are specially designed for children with smaller seats and seat belts as well as bright yellow color to have better warning function. Among the 79 buses, 14 ones have truck-style front ends, and this appearance like a long nose can effectively reduce the impact force and better protect children's safety. Drivers of such kind of school buses are required not to exceed 60 kilometers per hour. BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- With special inspection teams set up at all provincial-level governments, school bus safety checks have started across the country just days after a collision claimed the lives of 19 preschoolers on an overloaded bus, according to the Ministry of Education.

In an initial safety check, Beijing's municipal education commission found that some private schools' and kindergartens' buses were overloaded, and many private cars swarming to pick up children after school could also result in traffic disorders outside schools, according to a statement released Tuesday by the ministry.

Beijing has ordered its schools and kindergartens to keep clear records of safety inspections for all their buses and to arrange safety training courses for school bus drivers.

Twenty-one people, including 19 preschoolers and two adults, died and 43 others were injured last Wednesday morning when a nine-seat school bus illegally carrying 64 people collided head-on with a coal truck in northwest China's Gansu province.

In Shanghai, a total of 2,300 school buses will undergo comprehensive checks, including vehicle sanitation and control equipment inspections, by Nov. 25. So far, 15 buses have been found to be operating illegally, and they have been ordered to rectify their illegal operations, said the statement.

In addition to regular safety checks, eastern Jiangsu province held meetings for school bus drivers to exchange experiences on driving children.

Meanwhile, the education commission of southwestern Chongqing Municipality arranged for special personnel to anonymously spot-check school bus operations at middle and elementary schools.

In the statement, the ministry also urged education bureaus at all levels as well as all schools and kindergartens to map out emergency plans against traffic accidents.

Don't get me wrong, I can see you're caring for the victims in such a tragedy, but don't you think your comments a little bit too condescending?

I don't feel superior to anyone. We are all equal on this planet... as far as I'm concerned. I don't know how you get that I'm posting in a condescending manner.

It's not that I'm accusing you of anything Popeye. It's the content of the sentences that I have an issue with, although it's no fault of your own. IMO it just a little too preachy in a way. Take for example any tragic pictures in the world at given time in history, add that to the headline sentences, along with a "demand for change," with that kind of drama don't you think it could demonize a group of people? Once that group felt embarrassed and/or ashamed, they would determine to end it by submitting their liberty to that one person's POV. It could be just me, I don't like it when the press likes to shape the world through their own views by playing into the audience emotions (think Jerry Springer Show). I hope you understand my answer to your question.
