All those little kids stuffed in that micro bus. 17 little kids(64 passengers in total). Imangine putting your child on that microbus wishing them wll for that day and then being called in to ID their little mangled body. Tragic & and Shameful.

It's apparent to me that China needs a major review or revision of it's laws re guarding safety. If there are any. weekly I read about the horrific accidents in China. No safety = tragedy. What about any of you members that have visited or lived in China? Is not safety a part of the culture? I'm always surprised that despite the number of hits on thsi thread there's is little response to the accidents. Betcha if it was an PLAAF aircraft crash and any non Chinese stated anything negative about the crash there would be a fire storm of statements. C'mon gents....What up with safety laws in general in China? What's up?.

I don't think that chinese people care less about their safety of that of their children than their western counterparts. To assume so is insulting and factually wrong. What I think is China is still slowly transitioning from a 3rd world to a 1st world nation. I'm sure if there are more buses available they used them.

Despite a big economy and many technological advances being made in the past 20/30 yrs etc a large part of China is still 3rd world and a large part of their regulatory policies and laws are still antiquated. All this will change in the decades to come I'm sure.

I agreed, but there's problems and all kinds of 3rd world country outlook in every single large nations. Even here in the US there are rural poverty and urban poverty existed. I feel the majority of the audiences here are more fascinated and concern about what's happening in China right now, instead of the plight of the illegal Mexican workers that did all hard labor to build this country, or the poor African American community that are suffering from gentrification and in desperate need to tackle the many issues that plagued them for decades.

Thanks for the responses gents.

There's accidents happening everywhere around the world. So why picked on China and its "safety" law?

Of course there are accidents happening all over the world. I doubt you will ever see 59 persons stuffed in a micro bus in the USA.

I'm not picking on China. I just asked a question. Why were 59 persons stuffed in that micro bus?

Never stated they did not care. Never. And when did I ever insult the Chinese people? The simple fact is that China has a safety problem. Pure and simple. It is proven out in the photos I see daily.

I just saw the news just now about this accident in China. The spokeswoman, who, surprisingly, spoke in english, told about the known danger of using van transport and the need for safer and bigger school buses. A parent told about being forced to use the van transport because they have no other choice and their children need to go to school. In the poorer areas, it's not that people do not care about safety. It's that they just do not have a safer alternative. Bear in mind that some of these areas may have only extricated themselves from poverty only in recent time.

The same with the coal miners there. Most of them are willing to risk their lifes to work in unlicensed coal mine because they don't have much choice of jobs in the poorer areas. Also the risk in mining in these coal mines may not be any much worse than driving in most countries. That's why most miners in these poorer areas, are willing to take the kind of risk.

I can't wait till the authority cracks down MORE on these unlicensed coal mines and take away all their profits and put it to local use.
