Hey Dude!, so are you at Zuhai? Love those pressors, they are lots of fun and give the press a chance to "hang out" with the aircrews and chat it up?? Shame that Deino isn't there, but he needs to go to Chengdu and get the J-20 press tour! Come on Chengdu, don't miss out on telling your story?

Good to hear from you flateric, have a great time bruda!

Two videos of Y-20 performing a practice run for the air show.

At one stage, the Y-20 was at 70 degree roll angle. Is that a safe thing to do?

Four high-resolution (2000x1333) images of Y-9 at Zhuhai, along with examples of payload that can be carried.

Great picture and just what I liked to see

I think Y-9 can be used to transport regular infantry equipment light vehicles, jeeps, guns and ammunition in addition to the other assortment of equipment for personal transport for up to ~20 tons

Y-30 can be used to transport the IFV, heavier guns and also more equipment which is too large for Y-9 to about ~30-35 tons

Then the Y-20 is for MBT and over sized cargo big guns and heavy machinery like diggers and wheel loaders etc up to 50-60 tons

The Y-9, Y-30 and Y-20 therefore over the full spectrum of tonnage that a air mobility division needs although you will need a serious number of these aircraft and I am talking 3 digit numbers for each class to achieve that

I hope we see these aircraft used more and more in excercise and even over sea trips

It all depends, recall that many years ago, we lost a B-52, and recently a C-17, from these very spirited flying displays, so it requires a great deal of finesse as well as restraint, also these larger aircraft will also exhibit a tendency toward "overbanking" where you actually have to feed in heavy opposite aileron, in order to keep the aircraft from increasing its own bank angle.. So no, its not safe, but it does demonstrate good low speed handling, and in the hands of someone with lots of "feel", it is almost perfectly safe, but once it begins to "slide", it takes lots of opposite aileron and rudder to recover, and you have to "depitch" the aircraft in one fluid move, while moving the throttle to max thrust. No its not completely safe, but if done by someone who "knows" the airplane, these maneuvers look "awesome".

AVIC just finished a press conference, during which the Y-20 was officially introduced to the expo crowd. Also unveiled was this scale model showing the kinds of payload the lifter is intended to carry.
