This pic will probably trouble David Axe the most.

Care to elaborate a bit? Maybe I'm just slow now cause it's almost 4 in the morning here!

Well haters are abound. I read a comment on The Diplomat that this plane is made up of Ukranian parts that China has assembled.

The Y-20 won't come in to service at least for the next 4 to 5 years. I wan't to know more about China's current airlift capabilities.

Does anyone know how many second hand IL-76 transporters China has bought from Russia and at what price ?
Are any of the 17 IL-76 transporters in China's current inventory going to retire any time soon ?

David Axe's articles in the past seems more upset at the pride displayed by Chinese over Chinese accomplishments since he writes off all of China's stuff is outright inferior. Then he should be satisfied that all these Chinese are fools. But it's those at their core who want to control what people think wouldn't be satisfied with that. The irony is I bet Axe's reasons for his antagonism over China has everything to do with the usual excuses people have in their dislike for China. And we all know what that is. Hence the irony and hypocrisy. Not only does he think what the Chinese do is inferior. He's livid because the Chinese don't believe that too or they would have no pride to be displayed.

Read page 64 Asif give a good count of IL 76 that China own. I believe it is 23 transportation and 4 AWAC variant
Combined with 40 or 50 Y 8 transport variant China finally address their shortcoming in power projection

But doesn't the visible police SUV already confirm that those people are in fact being held there to jubilantly cheer against their will?

So what would David Axe have to worry about? I'm being sarcastic of course.

Seriously though, are all of those people, regular plane spotters?

The fuselage of this first prototype of Y-20 is extremely short compared with the wing span. Remember the shortened Boeing 747, the 747SP ? The production transport plane will maybe 20 meters longer and have engines perhaps twice as powerful. But I can imagine an Y-20 as long as this one carrying a radar on its back similar to KJ-200, and with radar transmitter elements in the horizontal tail plane sending its waves fore and aft and with receiving antennae in the outer wings. This fuselage must be large enough for the crew and equipment in such an AWACS plane.

Idiots such as David Axe serves some purpose too, such as calming the uninformed public who fear China to the bone, it also downplays the China Threat voice.
