At the time America also still had boundless faith in the power of rising personal income to instill American style consumer culture and western liberal style political outlook in population of any culture background.

Well, the US was right about the American style consumer culture.

But not about China adopting a western liberal political outlook.

Not quite. US concept of American style consumer culture, at least during the less illiberal pre-trump era, involves self-interested consumer political influence that results in largely open capital and goods markets.

Americans never really made up their minds about whether in their opinion liberal politics facilities full blown consumer culture, or consumer culture would drive emergence of liberal politics. but the two are seen as intertwined.

In the years between the end of the cold war and rise of trump, america saw debelopment of consumer culture as while not necessarily leading to liberal democracy, but will inevitably leading to the relatively liberal governments and liberalizing policies snd outlooks that results iv the eclipsing of merchantilism and hypernationalism.

If economical and bussiness activity has infiltrate politics and in a matter of kind drive politics, you have to have liberal politics as a given. But liberals love to present it as a natural event. In China's paradigm, economy, private bussinesses and profit. As the opening to liberal policies expanded, corruption, briberies, wealth accumulation of party members and so on (lol) phenomena grown to a level that they have to put them down or let the whole system rot. Governance malfuctions due to conficting interests of being a member of an organic whole, a member of nation state for example, which is a social obligation and duty. On the other hand you have the economics which in a liberal way are definitely personal obligation and duty.

Bro I am not white washing anything here.. But just talking about ground realities. Example a chinese citizen would have no issues entering Saudi Arabia or exiting as tourist and there are many who go there today. Where everything is similar in accommodation and higher quality of life...

But in Iran a Chinese citizen can not conduct tourism there because he will be in constant danger first from being arrested by the gov't for spy suspecion and next by some vigilantes hence why I am telling you Iran is not what you think it is an extremist country that is secluded beyond belief..

Iran is another North Korea in the ME just in alot worse ways...

Main while the Saudis are building NEOM and want to gather all of humanity in that new provincial mega city of the future.. Both countries are day and night

My good friend visited Iran 2-3 years ago, what he experienced there was totally the opposite of what you said .. have you been there?

"Zero units, which are militias of Afghans runned by the CIA, unaccountable to Congress and unaccountable to the Afghan government"

This is expected, these agents of chaos, even after the official pullout, expect bombings, attacks whatever, to continue.

Ideally the US would love it if it could make Afghanistan another failed state like Syria. It would damage the country and cause instability to the countries next to it
