Okay you know what, normally us folks here take a pretty dim view on the US but on this occasion I'm going to say right on, good on him. If US and China must compete I much rather it be Space Race 2.0 rather than sinking that money into aircraft carriers and stealth bombers. At least with a space race some science gets done on the side and in time it will benefit all mankind.

SpaceX alone can win this race for the US.

China should tune out the US voices and focus on its domestic needs. The CNSA has the budget it needs to achieve its jobs. Maybe more budget can be allocated to it, but this must follow the general economy direction

Economy growing well = budget increase
Economy is slowing = budget stop growing

Unfortunately, given how easy it is to push the Overton window, you'd soon discover that it's cheaper to build aircraft carriers and stealth bombers than fully militarizing Space. Sure, some science gets done but I feel the cost outweigh the benefits. Never underestimate the ambitions of Chicken Hawks.
