Looks like they're reaching parity with US telescopes fairly soon. JWST launches late 2021, 4 year gap.

Agree and actually, it might not launch this year due to a problem with the rocket.

China's Ultra-Large Aperture On-Orbit Assembly Space Telescope might be far larger, in the 100-meter class.

Sorry, I relayed the 100-meter figure from some web site without thinking much. The new telescope might be only 10 meters in diameter; I doubt the robotic arm will be long enough to build a 100-meter scope.

The robotic arm is designed to be detachable and mobile. A larger telescope can still be built as long as the telescope itself is designed to have an attachable base.

CNSA is showing some bold innovation and out of the box thinking by assembling their 10m diameter telescope in space.

Can you imagine the horror if they had gone with a JWST design .....

Seems not only the assembly, some of the manufacture would also be done in orbit.

100M would be ground breaking ESO had a concept called OWL it was absolutely massive
